Favorite 80s Metal Bands
Well Im sure this thread already existed at some point
I dont listen to anywhere near the amount that some of you guys do of this genre, but its one of my three favorites along with "core" and thrash.
So I left it open to any metal band that was around in the 80s, I would prefer the glam, sleaze, hair, power metal of that era but its all up to your taste and faves
These are the bands that I always am open to jammin out to! (no matter what the mood!)
Lion:
Holy Soldier:
Kick Axe:

Re: Favorite 80s Metal Bands
I listen to a lot of guitar shred so for me it's Vinnie Moore, Jason Becker, Joey Tafollo, Cacophony. Lately I've listened to Chastain's shrapnel releases quite a bit due to Ken Mary being on the skins and I had to check out everything he did:
American power metal really never took off in the mainstream and there were so many great bands (Metal Church, Vicious Rumors).
As far as 80s hooks go Ratt was king. Dokken was also amazing with choral melodies and Lynch's riffs/licks. Vito Bratta was also among the best to ever pick up a strat...
FTR, Holy Soldier debut came out in 1990... great album though.

Re: Favorite 80s Metal Bands
You're bringing up bad memories cuz I had a shot to see Holy Soldier when I was a freshman in college, but I couldn't get the 15 bucks or whatever it was at the time. I even went around begging in the dorm and almost had a taker, but it was too close to showtime and all the rides left. After the concert, all I heard was how great it was.Hardcore Christian wrote:Ik but they were a band and had demos in the 80sSuperjuice wrote:FTR, Holy Soldier debut came out in 1990... great album though.
Lion is one of my 'go to - get my 80's fix' bands. Good choice. They aren't exactly well known except for their two movie songs (one of which was under a different band name for Transformers).

Re: Favorite 80s Metal Bands
Well to be truthful, the only reason I really found them is because of The Transformers movieSuperjuice wrote:Lion is one of my 'go to - get my 80's fix' bands. Good choice. And no, actually Lion recorded under that name, Kick Axe recorded under the name Spectre General
So yes the only secular glam bands I own are because of the movie
