Trouble
I've been a fan of this band since I was a wee lad and first got into Metal! I had "Run to the Light" on cassette back in the day and practically wore it out!!!
I put this in the Christian section as there are some Christian members in this band. But they don't classify themselves as Christian (I'm aware of that). Feel free to move this thread if needs be.
Anyway - any fans of this fantastic Doom Metal/Stoner Metal band from Chicago?
Let's talk about em!!

Re: Trouble
Yeah love Trouble. "The Tempter" has got to be one of the top 20 greatest metal songs.

Re: Trouble
I'm cranking their latest album today, "The Distortion Field".
I like it quite well! Kyle Thomas is a good fit for the band IMHO.

Re: Trouble
While I'll admit, The Distortion Field sounds good, to truly sound like Trouble, you need Eric Wagner. I think I prefer The Skull over a Wagner-less Trouble.

LOVE THEM LOVE THEM LOVE THEM LOVE THEM LOVE THEM!!
My first proper exposure to them was via The Skull 30 years ago this month! I have just about everything by them except for the remarkably awful Kory Clarke-fronted Live in L.A.: official releases/demos/outtakes/alternate mixes/custom masters/65 or so live bootlegs...I'm always in the mood to listen to Trouble!
They were no-shows twice in my area when I tried to see them in 1996 & 2005, but I finally managed to catch them twice in early 2006. The latter of those was one of the best sets I ever saw a band play.
I'm a bit back and forth on The Distortion Field--Kyle is a better fit than Kory ever was, but Eric's voice is so distinctive and a great match when he's having a good day--but, similarly, I find The Skull to not have riffs of the same strength as Trouble and long to hear Bruce & Rick behind Eric.

Re: Trouble
Trouble has never had great production, like most doom bands, doesn't surprise me...

Re: Trouble
I like th the Def American album (self titled) and Green Plastic Head but that's it. I wish the Def American was available on CD because I only had it on cassette. I'll have to go over to iTunes and see if it would s there. As for Production I thought Rubin did a fantastic job.

Re: Trouble
I have the ST on CD & I think it's their best album. I like Run to The Light, the S/T, & Manic Frustration. Psalm 9 & the Skull are classics as well.
I want to love the new incarnations of this band but it's just not there. I love Bruce Franklins playing for sure but it's just not Trouble without Eric... Those two guys are so distinct to Troubles sound that without either it pales in comparison.

Re: Trouble
The new Trouble (with Kyle) is certainly different from their previous works with both Eric and Kory.
It's much less Doom Metal and more Stoner Metal. I do prefer their works with Eric over this new one - but in it's own right ... it's actually a pretty good Stoner Metal album. If you kinda look at it as if it's a new band - it sounds a lot better.

Re: Trouble
I'm quite picky but I have to say that I like BOTH albums (Trouble's / The Skull's) and while it's a bit confusing to have TWO bands with original Trouble members now playing the same style of music........ we have TWO cool bands here IMO!

Re: Trouble
I like Trouble quite a bit. I haven't really heard much of the middle stuff. But The Skull was my first introduction. I really like Distortion Field too.
Re: Trouble
I know that Bruce Franklin from Trouble is a Christian. Does anyone know if Eric Wagner is too? Just curious.

Nope. He is a very spiritual person and believes that there is more outside of this world - maybe something like God. He used a lot of Christian influences for Trouble's lyrics but he is definitely not a Christian.

Thanks for letting me know! I'll be praying for him!

There is trouble in the metal realm, there is trouble w/the peeps;
For the people scream "Wagner!" But the band ignores their pleas...

RavenWolf wrote:Why did they fire Wagner anyway? Does anyone know? Or did he quit?
Wagner left. He didn't like not playing the old Trouble tunes and said he was burnt out on touring. They (Trouble) said he had personal issues he needed to fix. They also said they would not write with Wagner again.

Re: Trouble
Thanks for the info metaldude! I was wondering what happened. I've been out of the loop since they stopped making print magazines. Webzines just aren't as special to me. I used to love reading my mags.
