Is long hair a symbol of pride and respect in the heavy metal community?
Long hair and heavy metal
Curious what people think.

Re: Long hair and heavy metal
I think that the longer hair with metal bands just goes with the image of what you're trying to sell. If you knew a metal band was supposed to play and the band showed up wearing business suits, you'd probably not take them serious upon first appearance. However, if the same band came in with leather, chains, and long hair, you'd definitely think to yourself that this was our sort of music!

That did come to mind. Just looking at the image of this band, metal is not what you would expect them to do.
Re: Long hair and heavy metal
Regarding long hair, if I could still grow it, I would.
Last two times I tried (with scalp stimulation and Rogaine) I still grew a skullet.
No one wants to see that, especially me. I'm seriously going to look into some sort of hair procedure though one day...

I'm not meaning to bruise ego and apologize for anyone who can't grow hair. I actually have personal reasons for this poll (has to do with work).

Maybe i'm the wrong to answer this one, because the older I got I just seemed to not worry about such things. I like the music and such superficialities simply don't impact that. When I like a style of music I want to hear the music and not worry about the fashion that has traditionally gone along with the music. Now, I used care quite a bit about this when I was a teenager and young adult. But now, it just seems trivial.

Graham Bonnet proves you can still have short hair and be metal!:

I prefer having the shaved head for reasons such as keeping me cool when its hot and making it easier to maintain. Also the fact that some jobs are still anti long hair on men which is ridiculous in my opinion. I remember being told to chop off my hair around 7 times before I decided to cave in.

Videos like this just wouldn't be the same with short hair.

I used to have long hair, but then I had to conform to the real world. If I could(I still can grow enough hair), I grow it back.

I am with Sentient on this. I think its just a thing to enhance your image to prove that your "Metal enough" when in reality it should be the music that matters. Just my 2 cents.sentient 6 wrote:Maybe i'm the wrong to answer this one, because the older I got I just seemed to not worry about such things. The suit thing was the label's idea not the bands (if memory serves)bjorn agin wrote:
