What are your favorite BETRAYAL/MARTYR songs?

Renouncement, The Usurper, Forest of Horrors, As I Turned Away. Didn't care that much for the first album and I have the Martyr album but I've only listened to it a couple times. 

I loved Betrayal's general vibe and lyrical content, but their singer was the weak link. Dude was sooo monotone.  If they'd had a great thrash vocalist, they'd be up there with the greats.

I love all the songs on both Betrayal albums, so those chosen above i tried to narrow down to my most favorite. I would love it if all the Martyr material was re-released as i dont have any, i have heard a good deal of there stuff years ago  through a bro.

War Circus

Forest of Horrors and Carnival of Madness 

They have a very gloomy vibe, i like  their second album The Passing

The Passing was my favorite album, so I would say songs like Renouncement and As I Turned Away. I also have the first two Martyr EPs but no cassette player to listen to them.

Betrayal:

Love both the Betrayal albums - all very good songs....

Chris Ackerman was a great vocalist for them imo....suited perfectly....was different to every other vocalist around at the time...

His vocals were fairly similar to Prado's

Was a big MARTYR fan back in the day, thought they should have been signed up to Rex Records.  They were even featured in Kerrang! magazine here in England, that's how I got to hear about them.  Like BETRAYAL but prefer MARTYR!!!

He did. He released one album. Very disappointing. It's been a long time since I heard it but I seem to remember it having an industrial kind of sound. It sounded nothing like the Betrayal band albums.

Yeah, he made a couple gothic-y industrial albums under the banner.  Although, not very much like the previous incarnation of the band: not very guitar-oriented and certainly no speed, but I liked it for what it was with Marcus on lead vocals.

Marcus was also in Deliverance during the Camelot in Smithereens era.

Personally I always preferred RbD by a lot.  I know that makes me in the minority.

I recall this mp3 was available for free from mp3.com which was the biggest legal mp3 site on the internet and where labels and bands would upload some of their songs for people to download. The site is completely different today.

If the moderators feel it's wrong to share this mp3, let me know and I will delete the file from Dropbox. However, I'm 99,9% sure I originally downloaded the file from a 100% legal mp3 site where Marcus had probably uploaded the song by himself.



Now about the song, it definitely sounds like gothic industrial metal/rock. Near the end of the song there is a guitar line (at 3:38) which goes quite like the fast thrash riff in Mortal Flesh, starting at 0:32. And interestingly the first half minute of that song has an industrial tone to it. It's interesting that the only thrash-era Betrayal song that hints at Marcus' interest in the industrial genre also has a riff that would later be used, although in a slower and less thrashy form, in his future industrial song.
