New Progressive Death Metal....
Satyrasis - ...Of the Dead
Ran into these guys several years back thru my friends in Dagon. Satyrasis is another band from the Lansing, MI area, and one of their guitar players (Matt) also played with Dagon for several years, including on the Vindication EP. Won't vouch for their lyrics being "Christian Friendly" here, as I don't actually know what all they are....but THE MUSIC......some of the best progressive death/thrash I've heard lately. The album was 8 years in the making.....they scrapped it 5 times to make sure they got it RIGHT, and for my ears, this is just a complete homerun. Bit's of Death, a bit of Deceased, a touch of Rush (including a cover that may not be to everyone's tastes...), and a sound 100% their own. tends towards fast paced and chaotic, more thrashy oldschool than modern technical deathmetal in feel, with little atmospheric touches and flourishes as well.....i've already got my first "album of the year" candidate, and we're not even out of January...

Listened to half of the first song. Interesting music. I like the vocals surprisingly. I will pass though as I don't like to listen evil things.exo wrote:Satyrasis - ...Of the Dead

This sounds great. But the lyrics my hold me back from getting into this.

Interesting band with a lot of potential. Not blown away but it's enjoyable.
Exo, what do you think about the band Exocosm? I like them a lot.

The temptation was too great...
....this band is quite good. I don't know what songs are about, and I probably don't want to know.

Listened to a few tracks on youtube, not somethign that really grabbed me too much. Competently done and enjoyable enough, but not something I'd call a "favorite".Temple of Blood wrote:Interesting band with a lot of potential. Not blown away but it's enjoyable.

Re: New Progressive Death Metal....
Mostly philosphical mumbo jumbo and reflections on life. I'd say the subject matter and the way they approach it is atypical for what most think of when they hear "death metal" thrown around. I'll just say that their choice of covering Rush's "Circumstances" is very fitting given the nature of the rest of the lyrics.sentient 6 wrote:The temptation was too great...

Yeah, kinda in the vein of later-era Death ( lyric wise ) was my impression. But very good band.....and the price was right.
