Here's what Michael Sweet wrote this morning
I've been working hard for the past 4 days and so far 8 songs are ready to go! Aside from a few tweaks here and there over the next week, I'm loving the direction!!! I dropped the low E down to D on three songs and overall this album will be the heaviest yet. There is a ballad that's a straight ahead "rock" ballad and I may try for another as well but I have to tell you, I'm super excited about the style and I feel in my gut that this album will not only rival NMHTP but quite possibly surpass it. It would be very cool to make the "the best album" of our career (when many people have already stated that NMHTP was and is). I believe we're easily on that path right now.
I'm taking two days off (Lisa and I will be celebrating our 5th year anniversary - 1/ and then I'll dive back in to finish everything up. Oz submitted a few riff ideas (I already completed one as a song) and I'll be getting to the other 2 soon and I have 2 other very cool ideas. As to that one cover (can't say what yet) and bam - we have a 12 song album with one bonus track.
You may be thinking "man that was just too quick" and "I hope the songs are good" - trust me I wouldn't let it slide if it wasn't. These songs are going to kick the devils A-double-S and then some and I can't wait to hear it all take form.
God Bless and Rock On!

I wouldn't mind hearing them get a little heavier.

Now if we could only get him to drop b!
Re: New Stryper Album in the works
Very cool, nice to be able to see a little insight on the writing/recording process as well.

I'm not really into the whole "down-tuning = heavier = better metal" mentality.

Hahaha just kidding... Down-tuning has its place but does indeed seem overused these days.

ANOTHER album in the works?!? Evil.... At least I hope they avoid gimmicks, blasphemous colors, symbols, & "tactics" this time around.

If Michael is able to write 8 songs in 4 days, I say they need to be putting out a new album every quarter. If not, it will just prove they are slackers. JK

Yep, me too!
I always liked Michael's song ''Save Me" - that had a Deliverance 'Learn' era crunch to it! Very tasty!
I hope this is kinda what he means by heavier....as 'No More Hell to Pay' wasn't as heavy as it was forecast to be.....still a good album though!

If we could get them to hit the drive-thru at Mickey D's more often, they could put on 20-30 pounds this year alone!!!
If the new album is as good as NMHTP, then I am all in. Of course, I liked both "Reborn" and "Murder By Pride". I still maintain that if they went back into the recordings for "Reborn" and added guitar solos that it would have been received differently by the fans.
Re: New Stryper Album in the works
I find that Michael Sweet will write, complete and finish and mix an album and have it ready for submission to the record company. Then he will shelve it for several months until he finally releases it/gives it to the record company. Murder By Pride was completed a in 2007 or 2008 and it wasn't released until July 2009. I am not expecting the album to be released before late 2015 or early 2016. Live at the Whisky live album needs to sell and the new Sweet Lynch album needs time to be promoted and to sell and allow for a tour if that is planned before there will be another Stryper release. I'm glad that Michael sweet is putting out a lot of product regardless.

I never equated heavier w/better, I just like quality, and the last one was top shelf!

Perhaps, but I didn't like them at all when they were released, but I went back and gave them another shot on their own merit and have found them to be quite good...

Re: New Stryper Album in the works
Hmmm.... Devils A double S... Ok, so if we subtract evils from Devils, we only get the letter D. If we lower case D, we get d. Now, if we flip it around, we get the letter b. If we capitalize the b, we get B... If we combine B and A double S, we get BASS. STRYPER IS GOING TO DROP THE BASS! TIM, NOOOOO!!!!!
