Re: Underrated bands
Really digging Sanctifica, had never heard of them before.
Spirit of Purity album anyway; Negative B, not so much.

I forgot Inversion existed. Thanks for reminding me, Vaak. Lol.
And yeah, Aletheian kicks all the butts.

Temple of Blood wrote:Totally agree about ALETHEIAN! They should be respected over BELIEVER IMHO! It's a shame they cam later because later bands don't get the respect of the initial wave when metal was at it's peak.
Yeah what a great band! Awesome lyrics too. Dying Vine is their "best" though I really enjoy Apolutrosis a lot too. ...Hope Prevails has some very good songs on it too.

I fairly recently [Christmas] got into them. Good band. I've been meaning to pick up their split with Pantokrator that has their demo on it. Does anyone have that? How is it? Negative B is a decent album, though it's SO dissimilar to Spirit Of Purity that even though it's the same band, it's unfair to compare IMO.

Haven't heard their other stuff, but the split with Pantokrator is great. That's the only CD of theirs that I have.Kerrick wrote:LemonMouse wrote:Really digging Sanctifica, had never heard of them before.

Cool! Well it's on my list to buy. Definitely check out Spirit Of Purity then. It's a good'un! Negative B is not black metal at all and is more avant-garde, progressive metal with some extreme tendencies. It's decent. Most people love it or hate it.

Didn't Albert used to post here, as well as on Firestream, back around the time "Dominaeon" came out?

I hadn't listened to this until now, but I must say I like these guys magnitudes better than most rock.
Edit: Also, just thought you should know that this video ended up on completely unrelated gaming forum because the thread had something to do with the last song you listened to. Funny how things spread around on the internet like that...

Re: Underrated bands
One of the few Christian bands during the 90's grunge scene that didn't sound like a copy of what was going on in the secular market... they had their own sound, truly unique. That album ("Sin") is in my top 5 fave albums of all time, but they were all good.MadKraken wrote:Deepfriar wrote:Poor Old Lu.

Re: Underrated bands
Basically, if you compare Christian and secular market, you will notice that most christian bands are underrated. There are lots of garbage around there. But we know that what is famous or popular, aren't necessarily the best. It depends on who is supporting the band and what are their influences in the market, generally speaking. Not to mention the luck of being in the right place in the right time.
Also, I hate sterotypes such as "Iron Maiden is the best heavy metal band ever". I wonder how can anyone say such a thing, considering how tastes change from one person to another as well as it happens as times goes by.
To summarize, in my point of view, only Stryper, Mortification and Petra have ever received the recognation they deserved it. All the other bands I enjoy have had a smaller recognation than they actually deserved.
Of course, there are a few bands that are on top of my list:
- Deliverance;
- Tourniquet;
- Saint;
- Sacred Warrior;
- Bloodgood;
- Rez Band;
- Daniel Band.
In christian Market, I think we use to forget Idle Cure that was such a great band, with 5 good albuns released, meanwhile bands such as Recon (that have released a single album only) and Holy Soldier (With only two good releases) are much more often remembered.

Re: Underrated bands
That's not the same Warlord, Candlemass. See how under-rated they are? You even got them confused.
Their albums are The Holy Empire (2013), Rising Out of the Ashes (2002), The Cannons of Destruction and Deliver Us.
Here is another song off of The Holy Empire that is awesome. That whole CD is awesome btw. It's with a different lead singer than The Kill Zone.

Re: Underrated bands
No offense to anybody's tastes, but there's a reason all these bands are underrated...
*except for Poor Old Lu, who were actually quite popular back in the '90s.

Re: Underrated bands
WARLORD probably is the very best Christian metal band ever. So yeah, if they aren't recognized widely as such then they are the most underrated.
Re: Underrated bands
Warlord is awesome, but they were most certainly not a "Christian" band back in their classic period with Deliver Us...though that title track would have you think otherwise.

Stryper. Y'all don't love them enough. If you don't have all their albums, buy them. Even if you do, buy some of them again. Name your kids after them and paint your car yellow and black.

Re: Underrated bands
Absolutely! The reason is: no one of these bands are better than Nirvana, P.O.D., System of a Down, etc...(irony detected!)strangerhoncho wrote:No offense to anybody's tastes, but there's a reason all these bands are underrated...

I just can't see eye-to-eye with you. There are a lot of crap out there that have made too much success. As I always say, the music industry is unfair, it is all about being in the right place at the right time, and not how much quality do you have. Generally speaking, it also happens in the labor marketing, but in industry music it is so much more evident.

Thanks for posting these. I haven't been able to find too much in the christian metal world that I like. These bands are pretty good though.
