HEAVEN'S METAL MAGAZINE PROJECT COMPLETE

Thanks for the countless hours you invested in preserving important documentation of this movement.  I plan on purchasing the collection regardless of format!

Could have had it completed sooner if I didn't have my 3rd major back surgery, a dentist pulling the wrong tooth, detoxing from pain meds, some family problems including my daughter getting divorced, migraines and other illnesses have all delayed my work on this. But like I said, 2015 is the 30th anniversary of the 1st issue in 1985, so the timing may just be perfect.

What kind of scanner are you using? If you are using a Canon there is an old version of their CapturePerfect software (3.0) that used to be free, and it does allow batches. I may even still have an installer laying around somewhere if you need it.

Oh thanks a lot for the offer ! I actually have every single page scanned and after nearly 2 years, digitally edited without taking away the charm of the magazine itself.

Currently I've taken all RAW TIFF files (that I saved these scans in) and combined each issue into it's own PDF magazine. The only snag I ran into was the program was glitching on me, but I got it resolved now.

The PROs: Project completed and converted to PDFs. This is in compliance with the disc's menu created by CMNexus's Daniel Billings. The total size is just shy of 4GB which will fit comfortably on one DVD-R, with room for possible extras of the publisher's choosing.

The CONs: I wanted the completed work to be "searchable", however, at this point the PDFs are not layered and are not OCR. I'm looking into programs (freeware) that will do OCR after the fact as I think it would be beneficial to be able to do searches if so inclined.

To Do: Contact Doug Van Pelt and Daniel Billings and pull this project together for the final steps.

I know that Acrobat Professional can OCR existing PDFs as I have done it before on my work PC. If you dont have a license for Acrobat pro you might be able to get a trial:

I have never used the trial but I imagine you can probably still OCR. Will probably take awhile to do that many pages but might give it a try

*Correction* - I have Acrobat X Standard on my work PC and and can OCR

If you use Acrobat Standard OCR would be under Tools > Recognize Text

I'd definitely pay money for this, no matter the digital format. My laptop and Android can read any kind.

Also if you still have OCR trouble I would be glad to feed them through my acrobat to OCR.

He posts regularly over on Facebook, so you should have no problem contacting him there.

I know he's buzzed through CMR in the past, so given the heads up he might read all of our input on the subject.

Just wanted to say I'd buy this for sure as well.  Would rather it be a nice set of hardcover bound volumes by decade, but I guess I'll take DVDs.  ;-)  If for some insane reason DVP doesn't want to release this, you should get us all here at CMR to sign a petition promising we'll each buy it.

Second of all I see on Doug's Facebook a post that he's opened a online store at https://squareup.com/market/HMpress to sell "like rare HM Magazine copies, HM apparel, Lust Control music and apparel and exclusive new custom stuff (stickers, art) and some rare (and cheap priced) classic Christian hard music CDs". So, if the current owners of HM don't want to sell this collection, Doug has now has the means to.

Doug:  Yes, coming soon, too. I'd love to get that pressed onto DVD (at a manufacturer), but not sure I can getterdone that quick.
