Shepherd (metal band)
I've been posting some of my songs here over the last few years for my project called Shepherd. Up until last summer it was just me writing songs but now I have actually put together a full band (played our first show last week). We are gearing up to do a proper demo soon.
I don't like to put any labels on the music other than it's metal because I have so many different influences. I'm not trying to sound like one band or genre I'm just trying to create my own brand of metal. But if I was forced to define it I would say that it's just guitar driven metal that has old school influences from various genres. It's not a Christian metal band but I am a Christian and like writing lyrics that are positive and uplifting.
Just trying to share the music with as many people as possible otherwise it doesn't exist

There are samples of the music on the page. Right now they are all instrumental and don't have real drum but when we record the demo it will have vocals and real drums.

Impressive. Personally, I like them without vocals. Thanks for sharing!

That's my same frustration with a lot of bands. Killer guitar besmirched by disingenuously angry vocals.alldatndensum wrote:The music sounds killer but I just can't get into the vocal style at all.

I totally understand why people don't like that style. I used to feel the same way. It's not as melodic and sounds angry (not as fun). I think I just got used to phasing out the vocal and appreciating the instrumental parts. At some point I ended up appreciated the vocals as well. I just like how intense it is and it also allows the guitars to do different things. I think it also helped when I came across bands that had that growly style of vocal but didn't have hateful/angry lyrics. The lyrics to this song is actually based off one of my favorite movies (I'm kind of interested to see if people can figure out which movie on their own haha). Most of the lyrics I write for the band also tend to be metaphorical or have some kind of uplifting undertone. Although I like the intensity and heaviness of growling vocals I don't like the lyrics to be angry for the sake of being angry.alldatndensum wrote:The music sounds killer but I just can't get into the vocal style at all.
No hard feelings. I will take the good with the bad Thanks so much for taking the time to listen!

Very good guess, but no.
*hint*: It's inspired from a movie first released in the 60's.

I think this sounds very good, and I like the vocals. Very nice guitar work. Well done.
I'm really missing blast beats though.
...but that won't be a surprise to anyone who knows me and that I said that...
My opinion, for what its worth, if this music stepped away from the medium metal-cruising-speed pace (even just a minute or so for a song or two) to an insanely fast what-just-happened metal obliteration, you'd increase your fan base.

Hi Thomas! Thanks so much for taking the time to listen and I appreciate your feedback. My talents are definitely in the mid tempo/melodic arrangements. However, having more up tempo brutal parts is still something I'm working at. It could really make the band more dynamic.
