Forgetting or not as familiar with certain areas of music....
I find as my music collection gets bigger with around 425 CDs and 150 LPs, I forget certain parts of albums after fully listening to them once or twice and putting certain songs on my cell phone or just in general from having so much music. I can't pair my cell phone to my car to listen to music so I usually bring 1 or 2 CDs to listen to while getting things done as well to listening to music at home of older familiar reissues reissues or music that I have acquired that I haven't fully heard yet.
I am very familiar with old classic albums from bands like Bloodgood, Barren Cross, Guardian, Holy Soldier, Mastedon, Petra, etc. With bands I have gotten into the past decade or newer albums by older classic bands I tend to forget or not be as familiar with certain albums or parts of albums.
Any thoughts?

I think what Constantine said in another thread applies here as well.
Overexposure to certain bands and stretching ourselves too thin to accommodate vast amounts of bands/albums can cause a kind of "burnout" on things after a while.
Also, you can't beat nostalgia. Not many bands' (especially older bands) newer releases can compete with the material that made you a fan in the first place.

I’ve slowed way down when it comes to checking out new music, because it’s so incredibly overwhelming that I end up not really absorbing like I used to. I’ve also pivoted back to mainly engaging with stuff I own rather than always seeking out new stuff. I’m trying to live by the principle of sampling in order to buy, rather than to rely on streaming. Not only does this help the bands, but it also naturally limits the amount of music I have to sort through.

I rarely check out new music these days. In part, because there isn't much new that appeals to me. The biggest reason is I have a back catalog that I need to spend more time listening to.
I try my best to limit my listening habits to only the music I already have so I don't forget why It's even in my collection lol. To my surprise there have been albums I've re-listened to, in which I no longer like or enjoy. More reason as to why have limited myself.

You and Constantine have nailed it. I can relate to this oversaturation and burnout. Apart from the new Motivik, Human Code, and Jerusalem, I'm fried on the scene for now.MagnusPrime wrote:I think what Constantine said in another thread applies here as well.

Much of our musical memories are attached to strong feelings and memories. As we age, we tend to strive for balance and not having as strong of emotional bursts. The music we remember best is from times where emotions and hormones were flowing and the songs became our soundtrack and therapy.
Today, we listen because we are fans. The music doesn't attach as well because we are more balanced and controlled.

I used to get that way and goes weeks without listening to any music what so ever, and I took and step back to see why. Alot of what burned me out was listening to full albums and also didnt know what I "felt like listening too. I started to just put my music library on shuffle (the beauty of having everything digital) and I got re exposed to things I knew I owned but hadnt heard in a long time. On top of that 1 thing that has ingnited my desire to listen more is picking themes to listen to on different days (ie Female Vocals regardless of genre, Genre specific, or custom playlists Ive created based around either Biblical events and themes and such) and I truely enjoy music so much more now then I ever have.

LOL, yeah I mean I just dont get why on STB there are so many instrumental tracks where all the sudden the human ear can hear the vocals and then they just disappear....so weird.Pethead wrote:mothy wrote:I used to get that way and goes weeks without listening to any music what so ever, and I took and step back to see why.
