Your very first Christian metal albums
1. Stryper - To Hell with the Devil
(my mom bought it for me in 1989)
2. The Crucified - s/t
3. The Crucified - Pillars of Humanity
4. Mortification - Scrolls of the Megilloth
5. Seventh Angel - Lament for the Weary
6. Tourniquet - Psycho Surgery
After those, I’m not sure of the exact order I got them…
Deliverance - Weapons of Our Warfare
Vengeance Rising - Destruction Comes
Living Sacrifice - Nonexistent
Betrayal - Renaissance by Death
And most of the other well known thrash classics etc…

such as DMZ by Resurrection Band, which you
could argue has metal in it, but as far as all metal I
believe it was...
Saint - Warriors Of The Son
Stryper - Yellow And Black Attack
in that order and both in '84

First album? Either Tamplin - Tamplin or Stryper - Against the Law.

This was one of my first few albums as well. Through it I fell in love with Stryper, Shout, Bloodgood, Vengeance Rising, Bride. Maybe a few others, I can't quite remember.

I got into secular metal/hard rock in 1988. I heard about the older Christian hard rock bands over the years… but I was still fresh to mainstream metal (let alone the obscure Christian stuff). Back then, I thought the only Christian metal was Stryper. Although I may have heard of Petra.
My very first cassette I owned was Big Bam Boom by Hall and Oats. And then after seeing the movie Weird Science I became a fan of Oingo Boingo. Then I discovered the band KISS. Then I was fully into glam metal. I started buying albums by: Bullet Boys, Winger, Skid Row, Ratt, White Lion, Motley Crue and Lynch Mob.
By my first year in High School (1990/1991) I was a thrash fan. Also some old school death metal too.

Bride - Kinetic Faith
Tourniquet - Pathogenic Ocular Dissonance
Whitecross - Triumphant Return
These were the first Christian metal albums I ever got. They were random gifts I had gotten from my aunt.

Me too. I had never heard of any of those bands before. I bought the album sight unseen based on the name only.

Messiah Prophet - Master Of The Metal
Bloodgood - self-titled debut
My brother also got me Petra - Beat The System on vinyl.
I also ordered a bunch from a distributer called Number One Son but they ended up stealing our money and I lost $100.
Years later I heard that the owner died, but who knows if he was a Christian or just a crook.
I got to hear a lot of other albums because friends had them.

What did you all listen to before metal?
Like I said in my last post, I started with Hall and Oats and then Oingo Boingo. But I admit that I was growing up during Michael Jackson’s heyday, and I was a fan. My first rock/pop concert was at the L.A. Forum on his Bad tour.

Re: Your very first Christian metal albums
My mother played 60's easy-listening all the time...Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams, Tom Jones, The Association, 5th Dimension, Dionne Warwick, etc. I never had my own musical tastes at the time. Eventually I discovered classic rock. Then pop, punk, disco, funk, r&b, prog rock, etc. There wasn't much hard rock or metal back then, so I discovered it slowly as it dribbled to the airwaves in the 70's and early 80's. Also the kids in grade school would bring albums in, and lend me their tapes. In high school and college, my classmates also introduced me to other bands and albums. Eventually I bought a few albums but not many because I was poor until I graduated from college. I mostly relied on borrowed stuff and albums that others would tape for me.TZ75 wrote:What did you all listen to before metal?
I still like and appreciate a wide variety of music.

The first albums that got me involved were Saint - Collection (1984-1999), Bride - Live to Die, and Ultimatum - Puppet of Destruction.
I was getting back into Metal as a whole after taking a break for some time. I wasn't sure if I would get back into Extreme Metal but it wasn't long til I found Crimson Moonlight, Antestor, and Vaakevandring.
