This is a case of: I like a band, but I need to find an angle to argue that they are not part of a genre that is looked down upon (like Grunge and Nu-Metal).

I think the only band that was actually a metal band (in disguise) was AIC.

They didn’t have the same “alternative rock” sound as their fellow Seattle bands. They came from a glam metal background and morphed into a dark Sabbath/Danzig style.

It seems like you have a problem with people disagreeing with you. Anytime I have a different opinion from you, like here or with Ritual Servant, your hy would a 40 yearresponse is along the lines of "Yep, you're right, what would I know?" or "You're just 15. What do you know?". And again, just because you are older doesn't automatically make you more knowledgeable. If a 40 year old who loves pop and hasn't done any research into metal said "I know more about metal than you because I'm older", you would agree with them? Again, that won't happen on this website, just an example to show age doesn't = knowledge.

Why would a 40 year old pop fan be on this website arguing about metal and sub genres? If someone that is older is on this site, they probably have been listening to metal (of some form) for decades.

Therefore, unless they are a complete airhead, they will know a lot more than a 15 year old. Even if you somehow started liking metal at age 10, that was only 5 years ago!

Versus some 40+ year old that has been a metal fan for 35 years.

It’s simple math. With all probability, the older music fan will know a lot more than the “green” kiddo.

That is true, and I have no doubt Black Rider knows more about metal than CTR. A better question however is, why would a 40+ year old man care so much about being seen as right, on an obsure internet form, about a subject that has zero impact on anyone’s real life, that he would get personally offended when a kid dares to disagree with him? Arguing about musical opinions is fine as long as it’s done in good fun, but some of y’all take things way too seriously.

The thing is BR gets offended(or at the very least sarcastic and a little annoying) every time I say something he disagrees with. I was just giving my thoughts and asking for others opinions on SG's genre because I have not found a full on grunge band that I really like except for SG and they don't sound like any other grunge I've heard. Then BR comes in and is like "No, they're grunge" and I give him my whole thought process behind why I think otherwise and he is all "(insert sarcasm) Well you're right. What do I know?". Again, I realize that most(if not all) of you on here know more about metal than I do, but the fact that you think that it's JUST because of AGE is just crazy to me. I know a lot more about metal than probably 85-90% of people my age and I've only listened to it for 2-3 years. You can learn a whole lot in a short amount of time. Again, you all know more than me but it's not because of age necessarily, it's that you've actually had quicker exposure to metal. RANT OVER

I think the term “grunge” was just an umbrella name for all the Seattle bands that were rising in popularity around 1990-91.

None of them sound alike… but they were lumped together because of their location and anti glam-metal attitudes.

Three of the bands have obvious Black Sabbath influence (Nirvana added punk), and the other was more of a Neil Young hippie type thing.

Nothing wrong with correcting people respectfully. However, the “ignorant young whippersnappers don’t know their place, daring to question the great expert that is ME” attitude is uncalled for, even if you are in fact more knowledgeable. You could be Einstein himself talking to a bunch of college kids about physics and that attitude would still be obnoxious. Besides, CTR wasn’t at all disrespectful in how he phrased his opinion, his only crime was disagreeing with BR

And as for the “it’s about facts” statement, how important really is the fact that Soundgarden is considered grunge? Does that have any impact on any of our lives? Is it worth getting angry about someone disagreeing with you on?

I like to debate too, and have disagreed with people here plenty of times. Never once gotten angry, even when I was actually disrespected (by Dustofyears, I don’t think anyone else has been disrespectful to me). My point is debating and disagreeing is fine, but getting angry and condescending because someone disagrees isn’t necessary. Heck, if I let it get to me every time I was disrespected on the internet when I was an active social media user, I’d have been an absolutely miserable person. And like I said, CTR wasn’t even disrespectful
