New My Silent Wake

Cool. 

As good as ever!

Sounds great!  My Silent Wake can do no wrong.

I've got my CD preordered.  

Though I'll admit, the opening track title gives me some concern; I'm very curious to read the lyrics.  I hope that "The Liar and the Fool" isn't a reference to Jesus, since it's a popular Christian teaching that He was either a liar, fool, or Messiah (with the obvious answer being the latter, as Theocracy has recently and eloquently sang about!).

I feel bad that Ian closed his account here. 

He must had been really upset. Some people can’t overlook political differences.

But I think he’ll still lurk and read the comments for MSW.

He gave me a heads-up before he left and he didn't seem upset at all.  Rather, it was more of the fact that he just isn't a part of this scene anymore and there's no longer anything for him here.  The only reason he had come back recently was to clear up some confusion over Dust Of Year's username (some folks thought he was Ian).

And he should be proud of Lament! I know the word Masterpiece gets slung around more than it should but when it comes to that album it's just how it is. And the other two are great too. Said it many times before, but If Lament was a secular album it would've been an instant classic in the metal Archives that stood apart from everything else.

Man what a shame I missed Ian. I apologize for bringing him here I did not mean for that to happen. Apologies Ian if you ever see this.

^It wasn't a big deal!  I think someone here on CMR messaged him on FB to see if you were him.  He just came to kindly set the record straight.  He didn't seem upset or anything; I don't think there's any reason to apologize!

Does anyone remember which thread that was in?  I think it was one in the Theology Realm?

I used to chat on occasion with Ian, back just before the release of “Anatomy of Melancholy” album. 

There used to be a website dedicated to all his past and current bands. It was called “planet” something… 

I remember I had messaged him asking if he planned to make an album of medieval style music, and by coincidence that is exactly what half of Anatomy was. Medieval folk music. 

He was always a cordial person in my interactions. He is very appreciative of his fans and likes to answer most questions (related to music). Plus he is a huge fan of trains. I don’t know about now, but he used to actually be employed as a train driver.

I talk to him on occasion on Facebook, I was the one who brought him here in that thread. When he left for good this time he said that it just reminded him why he left the faith, that it was an incredibly stressful time for him. I won't put words in his mouth, but I can understand that, firsthand. Yet I don't think that apostasy is the answer, it may bring some psychological relief for a time, but prove far more disastrous later. There are other ways to deal with such problems.

I’m just guessing… but I think the people he surrounds himself with are critical of Christianity and threw hard ball questions at him that he didn’t know how to defend and he slipped away into that mindset. He has said many of his friends are from the LGBTQ community. That probably also has something to do with it… he doesn’t want to be labeled a “bigot”. 

He should be more worried about what God thinks. I know he would roll his eyes at that, but it’s true! I’m not a bigot (but label me whatever you want for standing for my maker). 

Sometimes your brain and heart don’t matchup. We can only see through our faith. Some people want evidence now and are not willing to wait or have faith. 

Plus it might be that he doesn’t like the confines of religion. The temptation of living worldly is strong. 

(Keep in mind that these are just simple guesses). I obviously don’t speak for him. He has his own story to tell!

The new album is available for review

I just finished through my first listen of the new album and it's pretty dang good.  Really top-notch doom/death.  While I miss hearing Ian's fantastic clean vocals on it, Simon's clean vocals are excellent and full of passion and emotion.  Ian's death growls sound as good as ever.  The songs are all very captivating, without any weak-points.  Highly recommended!

I think the contrast of Simon’s clean voice and Ian’s growls are excellent! 

I’m glad Simon is in the band. He’s a Christian and a good influence on Mr. Arkley.

Interestingly, I think I read once that Simon was the evil growling voice on the Seventh Angel song The Charmer.

Can someone ask Ian if it’s true? While the voice sounds artificially enhanced, it still sounds more like Ian Arkley’s MSW growl.

Seventh Angel’s first two albums have the greatest album artwork!

The only competition is the Megadeth album covers by Ed Repka.
