Re: Hot takes.
Have you met jazz players? Real jazz, not the Kenny G stuff. They take themselves way too seriously.

I watched a hilarious video about Venom's early years the other day and how they were in many ways a fake band built on fake concerts /promo pictures, etc and hadn't really played many shows at all. Once they finally got on tour to a wide audience everyone a few songs in realized they were terrible. The entire black metal scene is based on that band. More evidence for my "image ruins music" point I made in another thread.
Metallicats were bad boys but still mostly somewhat mainstream and redeemable. Megadeth t-shirt kids were more rebellious but had an edge of intelligence. G'n'R guys were of low intelligence, tried to look the bad boy part, but still mostly abided by the rules. Slayer guys were usually in trouble, weren't going to finish school, and badly behaved, but Venom kids were still the most reprobate. The kids that wore Venom t-shirts in high school were the most degenerate kids imaginable. They wouldn't make it past freshman year, loved all things satanic, did drugs, and went straight to juvey hall.
This is great! Then again, my best friend was a Slayer and Cannibal Corpse t-shirt wearer and he went on to become a fireman and then a cop (still is). Of course, that was after I got him into Christ through Christian metal.

They sure as heck do! I sometimes wonder if they even enjoy it. It's a super intense style of music.Black Rider wrote:Have you met jazz players? Real jazz, not the Kenny G stuff. They take themselves way too seriously.

Re: Hot takes.
I'm sure some of these have already been said but here.
The Gift Of Music is really good
To Hell With The Devil is good but overrated
More Power To Ya is the best Petra album pre-John Schlitt
Stop The Bleeding's vocals suck
Roger Martinez sounds great on the first two VR albums

I think most people agree with your Petra take, although I slightly prefer NotW.
Agreed on THwtD.

I like THWTD but it's too glam. I prefer newer Stryper by a pretty big margin. IGWT might be the best classic album, I have to relisten though.

Re: Hot takes.
Here's some for ya:
Brides's This is It through Tsar Bomba era was their best
My favorite Deliverance album is As Above, So Below
Tourniquet sounded their best in that very small window where they recorded those 3 killer tracks on Collected Works/Acoustic. I wish they continued in that vein and those songs were musically ahead of their time. Microscopic came close.
Kurt Bachman's voice sounds WAYYY better on Believer's newer stuff
Bloodgood went way downhill after David Zaffiro left
Vengeance Rising sucked after ... Vengeance Rising left (lol)
Extol is probably the most talented Christian extreme metal band of all time
Stryper's new stuff all sounds the same and Michael Sweet's solo stuff sounds way better
Whitecross's Equilibrium and Unveiled were just as good as their stuff with Rex Carroll
As much as I hate to admit it, WhiteHeart retired right at the right time.

Oh man microscopic, it would've ranked higher for me but the vocals. Luke is a fine singer but his thrash vocals which are just talking fast almost kill it for me. But I do enjoy the playing and quite a few of the songs.

I thought of another.
Four(or three, some people don't consider The Woods Will End You thrash) of the greatest Christian thrash albums released within the last 4-5 years
