New thrash that's actually decent.

Because bad thrash is better than most nu metal, list some newer trash bands you like. 
Eruption is one. Sci Fi oriented and tasty riffs.

Traitor. Exiled to the Surface is a rager.

Some good ones in the Christian sphere from the last 10ish years are Angel of Sodom, Mosh-Pit Justice, and Ritual Servant. Adorned Graves and Motivik are great, although not simply straightforward thrash.

Newest ones I can think of that are any good:

Evile
Vektor
Havok
Vindicator

...and they're not really new at all.

Most of the newer stuff all sounds alike and runs together. 

They have the look. They have the imagery. They do not have the songwriting abilities.

"Hey look everybody, we sound just like the 80s bands (without the hooks)! We look like they did in the 80s! Got the sneakers going on, the skinny jeans, the works! You can't really tell one song from the next after a while, but hey - 80s thrash cosplay amirite??"

That’s how I feel. It sounds good when it’s on, but very few songs are memorable.

Or I’m just old and cranky.

I really like Evile and Havok.

Another one is Wreck Defy with Greg Christian.

The one Evile I have is good stuff. (Skull).

Like most other NWOTM bands, Evile wear their influences (for them, mainly Metallica and Annihilator) on their sleeves. However, they add their own brand of seasoning (Queen-like guitar harmonies and solos) along with knowledge of dynamic song structures to their sound.

I'm mostly familiar with their first 3, which each draw specific influence of certain bands. Like I mentioned above, the Metallica and Annihilator influence is just about constant, but the main influences of each release IMO are:

Enter The Grave (Slayer)
Infected Nations (Sepultura)
Five Serpents Teeth (Metallica)

I've only heard Skull once or twice. I listened to Hell Unleashed once I think. Haven't heard the latest one. Need to go back and listen to those more closely.

Part of why I like it is that I find ripping off, say, Metallica, lends itself to more memorable songwriting than being a poor man’s Exodus or Sodom.

My thoughts exactly.

Although I prefer more original sounding bands, if they can pull off a good imitation of early Metallica or Testament, I'm usually on board.

Most new “pure” thrash (and even some of the old stuff) is quite monotonous imo, just shouting and barking over non-melodic instrumentals. Imo the best thrash is that which mixes it with other genres and does something interesting with it overall. I know I hype them a lot, but Adorned Graves is by far the best modern example of this i’ve heard, i’d even put them on par with classics like Tourniquet. Biogenesis is another good one in a similar category, especially the album A Decadence Divine. For somewhat more straightforward modern thrash that’s still really good, check out Exhortation

Even Adorned Graves’ moms think you hype them too much.

They’re great, though. And they have their own sound.

Agreed. And listen to the whole thing, all the songs sound quite different from each other

^^Yes. That’s why I don’t mind that it’s a long album. There’s a lot of variety.

Back when I was exploring newer thrash, and I don't know what they've done recently, but I thought Lich King was fun.

They have some funny stuff, like “Black Metal Sucks” and “Attack of the Wrath of the War of the Death of the Strike of the Sword of the Blood of the Beast.”

Admittedly not a huge amount, that assessment is mainly from Christian thrash playlists on Spotify. I’m open to suggestions for more good modern thrash however

Don’t remember all the names, just remember the majority of songs in the playlists i’ve checked out matched that description. Stuff like Hand of Fire and Freakings I think. Been a while since I listened to such playlists though.
