Demon Hunter
What genre would y’all consider Demon Hunter? They’re listed as metalcore but that just doesn’t seem right. I’ve always kind of considered them as, well, Demon Hunter lol. Just wondering what others thoughts were?

Re: Demon Hunter
The few DH songs I’ve heard sounds like alt/nu metal maybe? Not my style so I never listened to them much

Metalcore, but they have a lot of variety. I don’t like much metalcore, but I LOVE DH.

Metalcore, bad metalcore (the one with clean vocal harmonies). Yikes.

Re: Demon Hunter
I don't consider Demon Hunter metalcore or nu-metal. I know this doesn't work for others but I consider them modern metal. Maybe that's a pointless label but this is my thinking. I'm not saying DH sounds like Pantera but Pantera didn't fit a particular mold in their time or really even today. I don't think DH, at this point, fits in a category. Maybe at the base you could call them metalcore (I wouldn't) but from piano ballads, gothic overtones, alternative, thrash, doom, groove, etc. they do too many things to say they fit somewhere.
Their first 5 albums definitely fit more in the early 00's metalcore scene, though they had more Pantera than Swedish Death Metal in their sound. Since Trrue Defiance they have blown that mold, especially the last 3 albums. If someone said EXILE was metalcore orr nu-metal I would suggest they never listened to the album.

Re: Demon Hunter
They kinda seem like a band who makes Christain versions of secular music, so all the songs almost feel like a different genre. It's what I love about them. More than bones reminds me of H.I.M, Fear is Not My Guide almsot reminds me of Hello from Evanescence or even (a band called) Green Carnation, same with I Will Fail You (reminds me of Green Carnation).
Then they have songs that remind me of Slipknot. They seem to be pretty diverse, you could easily replace a ton of secular metal bands with just Demon Hunter
They remind me of a mix of Nu-Metal, Hard Rock and Prog Rock, but also stuff like... Whatever Green Carnation is.
Its like labeling the Beatles. It's difficult

Re: Demon Hunter
I agree. I’ve listened to them off and on since their first album, but true defiance is where they really got my attention. Stylistically they may incorporate some metalcore, but they’ve always seemed to be in their own category. One reason I’ve always liked them is you can tell immediately that it’s them when one of their songs comes on.Frozen Fire wrote:I don't consider Demon Hunter metalcore or nu-metal. Exile was a grower, but now I love that album.
My favorite is between The Triptych and The World Is a Thorn.

Extremist or outlive are probably my favorite. Exile has some really good songs on it but it’s not my favorite.Pethead wrote:Exile was a grower, but now I love that album.
