Moth, CrimsonWarrior and Kerrick:

All 3 of you mention so many bands that I've never heard of in the Christian What Are You Listening To Right Now? thread. I don't have enough time to try them all out. Can you each give me ONE of the more obscure band's album to listen to? I'm thinking more of the extreme/black/doom/death genres. Thanks!

We all know that Kerrick just makes up bands by using foreign words that none of us can read.

These are entirly in my wheelhouse but my rare favs are (sorry going to break the rules and use 2).

Doom: Nick Leonard - Revelation. Its one that I stumbled across and have been really enjoying. Breaking the rules but also Hobin 3abet (russian name) Apocalypse is a really good hidden gem

Death: Children of Wrath - No Flesh Spared. Tends to span different genres but a hidden 1 man gem. Also the 2 Disencumbrance demos are absolute brutal death metal.

Black: Exorrta - Last Called. I dont think it gets enough attention. Good black metal with some Female vocals that give it that extra depth. Also a nod to Sacred Oath - Where the Worm Dieth not (Mix of all extreme genres)

Hope that gives you something.

Just one?!?  How cruel to make us choose hahahaha!  One band that I never see mentioned (which I think is a crime!) is Leonov from Norway.  I'd categorize them as post-rock/metal with a strong doom influence.  They're quite atmospheric and their music ebbs and flows very fluidly to the point of verging on more the avant-garde end of the spectrum.  They have two albums (with a 3rd in the works currently) - both of which get very regular play from me!

I have both of their albums and actually like the second one significantly more (though both are good).  I think you're in for a treat!

Thanks Kerrick. Yeah, I know what you mean about ONE threads. But at least this is only a few. Combined with my commitment to Pethead to listen to 1/2 the Petra catalogue and some of Pierce Pettis' stuff, this is enough for awhile!

Right now I'm listening to CoW No Flesh Spared and am loving it. Of the three genres I mentioned, death is my favourite...at least right now.

Right on!  Definitely check out their second album Supernatural Dimensions then too.  The song The Seventh Seal is epic.

But if you're in the death metal mood... I'll use this opportunity to give you a second recommendation, ha!  Very Happy  The Autumn League is somewhat atmospheric melo-death - a genre I typically don't gravitate much to but for some reason this album (the band's only release) has really struck a chord with me and has become one of my most-listened-to albums.  It's got very good lyrics too.

If, for each album I own, you were to multiply a theoretical quantifiable amount of obscurity by how much I like the album, I think Dormant - Consolamentum might have the highest score. It's riffy, one-man Dutch black metal that has been a favorite of mine ever since I found it. It has a very raw, organic sound to it and absolutely delivers on what I want black metal to be: dark, mysterious, and relentless.

lol! It's rare anyone wants to pretend they're me; usually folks want to disassociate themselves from me as much as possible!   Razz

Thanks for all the suggestions. As many as I could find I have downloaded to YouTube, YouTube Music or Amazon Music (I don't use Apple Music or Spotify at this point). I also have bandcamp open in my browser with The-Way-Down favourited.

The only ones I couldn't find were Children of Wrath Supernatural Dimensions (which sucked 'cuz I really enjoyed the first album when I listened to it yesterday) and Exorrta Last Called. But I have lots to listen to right now anyway!
