Metal Church or Vicious Rumors?

Which USPM band do you prefer? 

I enjoy VR, but I love me some MC. Gotta go with them. I also prefer them lyrically.

MC easy because of the Howe albums.

OK. Had to go with Metal Church - but only by a thin margin. They're a little more consistent. Plus they have one of the all-time greatest debuts in metal.

So many love the debut but I find it only average, they got so much better.

I agree. I actually prefer The Dark to the debut. And the Howe stuff is my favorite.

Interesting choice for Wayne and Howe. Those albums are considered somewhat unpopular.

I know Masterpeace gets a lot of hate (I happen to like it well enough), but Hanging In The Balance usually gets mentioned in high regard from what I've seen. It's mainly the album cover that people hate (myself included). REALLY wish they would/could re-release it with a better cover (wouldn't take much LOL!). I wouldn't give it a super-modern looking cover though. Hate it when bands do that. It would need to fit the look of the era it was released in.

I disliked Masterpeace when I owned it. Now I’ve listened to it on YouTube and changed my mind. It’s actually pretty good! It was their comeback album, so I was expecting David Wayne to sing the way he was known for… high pitch wailing!
Luckily he did sort of return to his old style on his solo album (before he passed).

Both those albums came out when that style was almost dead so I was excited to hear them. And Hanging has End of the Age which is epic.

That said, as much as I love the 1st two Vicious Rumors albums, I have to go with Metal Church for the overall quality of their catalog of songs.

Why is it a silly comparison? Both are considered USPM bands. Even Carl Albert and Mike Howe sound kind of similar.

If it's that silly, why comment?

1.  Well it seems kind of high school-ish, as in "my band can beat your band!"   Why not just enjoy both for what they are?

2.  Because I'm unwinding after talking to the IRS and there weren't many interesting topics to comment on that I didn't already comment on.

Hate seeing my favorite APM band, Vicious Rumors, getting pummeled like this, but I'm not surprised - MC has a really strong catalog.  But, I'm wondering if you guys have listened to Word of Mouth?  It's a very strong album that got released when the scene was dead.  Digital Dictator and s/t are two of my all-time favorites and Soldiers of the Night is groovy too w/ the great Vinnie Moore churning out some neo-classical solos.

However, MC has a bigger, more consistent catalog.  Had Carl Albert not passed, they would have better latter day albums.
