I've got Zao's first 3 albums from Solid State. How is this in comparison? I see you have it listed under "Secular" and I believe I'd read some interviews awhile back that the current members were no longer Christians.

Yeah I'm not sure where they're at as a band right now. I think the lyrics on the album could be left up to interpretation.
Musically I'd say it follows up similarly to their Blood And Fire Brings Rest in sound. Although it's very much more slow and plodding, almost like they've incorporated some Funeral Doom elements. It's not my favorite of theirs by any means. But it is an interesting listen.

I enjoy them for what they are, but only occasionally, and in small doses.

What do you mean by “vulgar” in this context? I don’t find them particularly offensive for the most part, but I do think Hetfield’s lyrics took a nosedive after AJFA.

Only album I've heard by them is Revenge, I remember it being fairly predictable for the style.
