Warpriest (trad doom) - Album #2!

When Robert aka Deathisgain announced Warpriest's follow-up to 2020's debut album*, I just assumed it'd be in the works for another seven or so years until we'd get to hear it... but boy was I wrong! The due-date is Friday August 13th which is coming up fast! I've had the opportunity to sample a few of the tracks and all indicators point to this being an absolutely killer album. There's no "second album slump" material here. It's darker, heavier, and more varied than the debut, yet maintains everything that made the first album so good.
I'll be sure to post samples, links, and news once more is available, but in the meantime you can check them out here and listen to their song Warpriest from their first album:

^Oh yes please. That's really the only reason I posted this thread. Otherwise I'll have to stop introducing myself as I do: "hi my name's Kerrick - you've probably have heard of me from the Warpriest CD liner notes." I think the weird looks I get are due to their utter surprise and awe.

Some of this is pretty catchy. I can hear that buzz saw sound of entombed in there, (or the swed-sound if you please), and a little candle mass perhaps. Riffs are as doom as doom ever was and the drums are pack a good punch all with varied vocals going on.
Tip: the top video with my dad in cloak and hood doesn't help

Love the sound on this! It has a classic sound, not over produced but raw, clear and punchy. Wasn't sure how I'd like the vocals but they're solid. I'll have to go back and check out the debut when i've digested this more.

Slowly rhythm tracks as standard fair plus, in traditional doom, extended lead breaks as a bonus. I actually think it's tough to have a shorter song. The short ones are always the galloping tunes, the least doom.alldatndensum wrote:I love the sound and the lyrics.

If rhythm tracks being slow doesn't make sense for why a song is long then I don't know what the possible answer could be. If they were short the song would have only just begun at 3 minutes.
For my part, doom songs are long because awesome things should last longer. This album is filled with long, awesome songs and gets better every time I listen to it. So catchy, so well written, so well produced. I love the dual vocal approach and Elis did a fantastic job for her part. I've never heard that in a doom album and it makes this stand out in the best of ways.
