Live Planetarium ... finally on vinyl!
Continuing with our release of Mortification albums on VINYL, Soundmass are happy to announce the LP release of their definitive live album Live Planetarium.
Recorded in October 1993 at Australia’s iconic Black Stump Festival, Live Planetarium was the fourth Mortification release on Intense Records and their first live album. And what an incredible live show it was, almost flawlessly performed in front of a wild crowd! The set list is a selection of classic songs from their first 3 albums, capturing the diversity of the band’s vision. This is truly Mortification at their greatest, their innovative blend of extreme metal styles setting them apart from the crowd. Their intensity, energy and variation are perfectly captured on this recording – Steve’s thick bass and powerful voice, Michael’s sharp guitar chops and Jayson’s precise drumming – with the incredible production making every instrument clearly heard.
Gone is the original computer-generated cover (lame!), replaced by a brutal depiction of the band drawn by Troy Dunmire (who became Mortification’s go-to cover artist). Live Planetarium has been out-of-print in any format for a long time and this is the first time it has ever been available on vinyl. Including an insert with lyrics and an abundance of photos, this is a must for fans of this pioneering Aussie band and any true metal enthusiast.
Shipping early September!
TRACK LISTING:

Distarnish Priest
Brutal Warfare
Destroyer Beholds

That's a very cool cover! I am just not a fan of this type of music but that would make a great LP display!

I was at this gig and was all over the DVD, I also did sound for them the night before at a warm up gig in Wollongong, I wish I still had the recording as it was just as good as this performance, I also owned the trace ellliot bass amp that Steve used for the gig, at the time of the gig though it was owned by the bass player for a band I did sound for, so many awesome memories

This artwork originally featured as the centre fold of Creature zine #2, 1993 in B+W, 17" x 11. So the art for this LP has a little of each side cut off, to square it and has been coloured. Creature was an extreme metal zine created by Troy Dunmire in the early 90's featuring loads of his artwork.

No interest for me in the vinyl but good to see a re-release. I remember buying the CD and had the VHS of it as well. For me a top 3 Live CD no matter the Genre or Christian. Also holds a special spot for me because it was that tour (not that show) that was my only Mort show. Sadly Jayson had already left but got to see them and talk to them after the show. Even had them sign my HM mag I had brought with me!
6 Bands that night for like $12 including Precious Death doing a 2 man acoustic set because 2 members had come down sick.

The cover is awesome. I have the DVD, so I am not interested in this vinyl, but this art could make a very cool t-shirt.

Jayson had left the band but came back to do the live DVD plus the warm up gig in Wollongong before Blackstump, they also recorded the soundcheck before the show where they ran through most of the set which I was at as well and I remember Steve telling me they actually used 1 of the soundcheck songs for the DVD, forget which song thoughmothy wrote:No interest for me in the vinyl but good to see a re-release.
