I love Whitecross, but...
Man, Scott Wetzel was a BAD lyricist. Enjoying some Whitecross the last couple of days and the music is great. And I'm not busting on the simplicity of the lyrics. I don't mind simple lyrics. They're not just simple; they're bad, sometimes awesomely bad. The last straw was listening to High Gear today. This has to be Scott's worst record lyrically. In the title track we get this gem:
There you are, rockin the night
Crank it up, see the white hot lights
Enjoy your music, feel good inside
No matter how you feel, there's a world about to die
What?! I get what he's trying to say here, and I agree with the sentiment; but man, that's just a terrible lyric. Later in the album, in the song "My Love", we get this tear-jerker:
Like the rain in springtime
I just need to be with you
What the heck?! Who needs to be with the rain in springtime? Or who does the rain in springtime need to be with? This is just a totally nonsensical lyric. Trying to sound poetic, but just sounding stupid.
I can go onĀ and there's more from other albums ("enough nuff" ), but this band was really held back by the inanity of the lyrics.

IT was the 80s... and yeah... there was a lot of cheese... and still is from time to time...
I agree with your observation, I just ignore that stuff these days...
I'm sure they'd agree as hopefully we've all gotten a bit wiser as we've gotten older...

I'll take bad lyrics over his voice any day. Anyone who has read my posts here before knows that I can't stand Scott's voice.

Compared to some others Scott's lyrics were fine to me......Although i enjoy alot of Narnia's music, Christian's lyrics are cheesy alot of the time...Yes, i know the swedish transfer might be an issue, but i certainly found the lyrics more intelligent by Veni Domine - also Swedish.
