What Genre(s) is your library made up of?
So I recently did some re-organizing of my I-tunes library and found out that .........................
my library consists of:
(ranked by song number)
Metalcore/Hardcore/Deathcore: 154 albums, 1445 songs
Hard Rock/Modern Rock/Rock: 115 albums, 1270 songs (this one contained everything from later Bride, to Skillet and Disciple)
Thrash/Death/Doom Metal: 46 albums, 518 songs
Glam/Hair/Classic Rock/Metal: 49 albums, 482 songs
Black Metal: 10 albums, 73 songs
Country: 4 albums, 60 songs (Johnny Cash live albums/greatest hits)
Rap: 5 albums, 56 songs (Mars Ill and DC Talk )
Power Metal: 5 albums, 40 songs
I just sorted them by what genres I thought I most likely had a lot of, Im surprised I had so little Power and Black metal compared to what I thought I had
You dont have to list like I did but what do you think your library mainly consists of? Or if you wanna be coolio make a list more or less accurate than mine

In no particular order ...
modern rock
classic rock (50s through 80s)
power metal (euro and us)
symphonic metal
progressive metal
progressive rock
core
thrash
80s glam/hair metal
goth
80s pop
90s pop/rock
industrial metal
grunge
jazz
classical/chamber
opera
swing/big band
disco
celtic
instrumetal
blues
southern gospel
acapella
bluegrass
country
brass
CCM
doom
orchestral (soundtracks)
rap
rap/rock
extreme metal (death, black, etc.), but only via sampler CDs
Did I miss any! You name it, I have some ... almost. I deliberately left off hip/hop, and almost left off rap (I have a DC-Talk CD and a few tobyMac CDs; not sure if they really qualify); definitely no gangsta rap. I have a very open mind concerning music, but it just about slams shut where rap and hip/hop are concerned. That's pretty much true for extreme metal as well; I won't buy any, but if it's on a sampler CD I'll listen to it.

I tried to be more general and combined quite a few genres myself.

My library has mostly rock, hard rock, commercial/glam hard/classic rock/metal, power metal, progressive/technical/shred hard rock and metal and thrash metal. I'm not really into any other styles of hard rock and metal.

Re: What Genre(s) is your library made up of?
I group mine in only the most general terms:
Top shelf (almost too high to reach): southern gospel/quartets & Christmas music
Next shelf: Comedy, catch .22, ABBA & related artists, CCM
Next 6 shelves: metal of any genre/subgenre
Next shelf: Hard rock/metal compilations
Next shelf: The Beatles and Beatles solo projects
Next shelf: Country & western/western swing/cowboy music
Bottom shelf: pop/rock/80s top 40
Oh yeah, I forgot about my cassettes. I haven't counted them, but I probably have 250-300, and they're pretty much all Christian metal demo tapes or custom tapes. Plus, I have a few vinyl, but very limited.

Both of them: country and western.
Actually, I really do have a bit of just about everything under the sun. From 8-bit to zydeco.

All genres of Christian rap, rock, metal, electronic, industrial, instrumental, with a speckle of CCM here and there, but mostly metal (and ZERO country). 55,000 songs and growing.

Re: What Genre(s) is your library made up of?
Mostly classic rock, some 80's metal, very little Christian Rock or Metal (although I have all the Stryper releases, Bloodgood, Saint, Barren Cross and most of the recent reissues). I just have more classic rock than anything else. My record collection is mostly classic rock and jazz, everything from from traditional jazz, swing or "space age bachelor pad music". Mostly 70's rock in my record collection.

Wow, I do not listen to such a wide range of music as you do. Basically, I have tons of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal (some glam stuff included), smaller quantities of Thrash, Progressive Metal, classic rock (Dire Straits, Lynyrd Skynyrd) and Doom Metal, a couple of 80's and 90's pop music/ccm (some Tina Turner, Plumb, Third day), death metal (all the mortification album, only) and modern metal.
At around 75% ofthe music I listen to is from christian bands.

Re: What Genre(s) is your library made up of?
I ONLY buy hard copy and NEVER download albums - unless I have no other choice.
Having said that, I do download each of my albums ... so here's the breakdown according to my music player:
I have MOST of
1. Traditional Heavy Metal (26 hours)
2. Power Metal (25 hours)
3. Synthpop (24 hours)
4. Glam Metal (22 hours)
5. Hard Rock (22 hours)
6. Alternative Rock (21 hours)
7. Pop Rock (20 hours)
8. Thrash Metal (17 hours)
9. Progressive/Symphonic/Doom/Stoner Metal (16 hours)
10. AOR (15 hours)
I have more than that in my collection - but those are my top 10 genres as to what I actually "own". Again - all on hard copy - of course.

Re: What Genre(s) is your library made up of?
I perfer physical copies in most cases but its really no longer convient for me to have my massive CD library as its been in storage since i moved back from TN in 2011, Where as I have a 1 and 2 Terrabyte external where i can access thousands of songs I generally use my iphone to listen to music, sometimes i have a few cds in the car as a backup. I do love having a massive library but its no longer practical for me as i dont have the space
Like I said i have a bit of everything, metal, rock, hard rock, thrash, blues, jazz, swing, rap, country, pop, alt, classic rock, ambient, instrumental, dirge, shoegazer, and the list goes on and on and on

Good thing you're moving soon! Woohoo! More space! Now you can get your CDs out of storage right? I'd be lost without my CD collection. They are like my kids. Only I love my real kids more

Of what's in my listening rotation, I'd say 90% of my music collection is some form of black metal.
5% is death metal.
5% is gothic metal.
Nothing Christian (apart from reviewing my own albums during production) is in my regular listening rotation.

Re: What Genre(s) is your library made up of?
I learned that a good 50% of the 28,813 songs in my iTunes are miscategorized or not categorized. I've never done any of that so these are all just defaults. I guess I've got some cleaning up to do, if I want to spend an entire year fixing them all.
It's kinda funny that I have so much non-metal, because I'd say I listen to some form of metal 95% of the time. I guess I used to have broader tastes.

Re: What Genre(s) is your library made up of?
I have all my music on an external hard drive, so I think that just looking at the file sizes of the folders is a good way of determining quantity (though certain genres do have much longer songs than others, and some of the songs have album art tied to them which might make them larger, but it should hopefully be accurate enough).
I have it separated into five categories: "Extreme Metal" (black, death, etc.), "Non-Extreme Metal" (thrash, power, heavy, etc.), "Djent and Industrial" (weird combo, I know, but this contains a lot of instrumental "metal-influenced" stuff that isn't necessarily metal), "'Core" (hardcore, metalcore, grindcore, etc.), and "Other" (ambient, rock, etc.).
File sizes:
Extreme Metal - 13.7 GB
Non-Extreme Metal - 1.3 GB
Djent and Industrial - 1.13 GB
'Core - 1.14 GB
Other: 2.02 GB
I can also look at the number of files in each folder (which should include all of the songs but might also include miscellaneous things thrown in there such as a digital booklet or album artwork).
Number of files:
Extreme Metal - 2,113 files
Non-Extreme Metal - 204 files
Djent and Industrial - 101 files
'Core - 257 files
Other - 204 files
