Post by Throne of thorns Fri Sep 18, 2015 4:04 am

I saw the top 10 christian thrash albums of all time and  all the typical ones sprung to mind as everyone was prob going to suggest. I wanted to do top 10 christian albums of all time. Choose Albums that meant or mean something to you through out your journey of Christian metal and or Christian music in general. Here is my list of just christian music I rate as my top 10 and in no particular order. be happy to see yours.

I did not list Kings'x because some say they are not a Christian band and I would not have much of a list left ha ha.

1 Holy Soldier self titled

2 Holy soldier last train

3 Phil Keaggy Master and the musician

4 Glen Kaiser all my days a pretty depressing worship album lol one I hold close to me for some reason......

5 Seventh angel Lament for the weary

lol! Mmmk...............Actually come to think of it was Stryper that opened the door "My gate way band" if you like into the wonderful world of heavy metal  so I would also add To hell with the devil album....you just reminded me....this is in fact an important moment in my musical landscape and journey indeed It was a friend who had the thwtd tape and soldiers cassette....of course to hell with the devil cover won me first so that was the first genuine  metal album I heard and got on tape.....man it's been a while since I listened to that album. cheers

Top 10 Christian albums of all time Empty Re: Top 10 Christian albums of all time

Post by Guest Fri Sep 18, 2015 4:07 pm

I am trying to limit this is to just one album by each band. These are in order, btw.

1 ) Stryper - Murder By Pride / No More Hell To Pay

Murder By Pride is probably my favorite album of all time...for any band. Soldiers Under Command is a fantastic album that I fell in love with when it first came out, but I think I like the versions that they re-recorded for Second Coming better than the originals. To Hell With The Devil was an incredible album, as was No More Hell to Pay. NMHTP is a modern masterpiece. Hard to choose, so I had to go with a tie between MBP and NMHTP.

2 ) Liberty N Justice - Hell Is Coming To Breakfast

An incredible album, bolstered by having the Jani Lane acoustic version of Sin. Done with a sense of humor sorely missing from a lot of today's bands. Welcome To The Revolution or The Cigar Chronicles would have been good choices too. The song Blind Man's Bluff with Michael Sweet (WTTR) and the song Mad Hatter with Donnie Vie (HICTB) are my two favorite LNJ songs.

3 ) Theocracy - As The World Bleeds

Not a huge fan of Theocracy, but this album is incredible. I Am is a classic.

4 ) Broken Silence - Discerning The Times

I will probably be the only one who brings this one up. A band that should have been huge, and would have been if their cd was released 5 or 6 years or so earlier.

5 ) Resurrection Band - Mommy Don't Love Daddy Anymore

Three straight releases (Colours, MDLDA, and DMZ) by them are among my favorites, but MDLDA is the one that stands out for me.

6 ) Fireworks - Live Fireworks

Definitely sounds outdated whenever I try and listen to it now, but this was THE album that got me into Christian rock, and they were also the first band (Christian or secular) that I ever saw live.

7 ) Whitecross - self titled

Hammer and Nail and Triumphant Return were both incredible albums also, and either could have been picked by me, but I went with the debut album because it was the first. Any of the 3 are worthy though.

8 ) Barren Cross -  Atomic Arena

Rock For The King and State of Control were considered. I actually probably like State of Control as much as Atomic Arena, but the song Dead Lock from Atomic is my favorite BC song.

9 ) Bloodgood - Dangerously Close

Detonation is an absolute classic, I just don't think it has held up well over the years. Top Of The Mountain from Out of the Darkness is actually my favorite Bloodgood song. In my rankings, Dangerously Close probably benefited as much from the better recording technology as it did for song selection.

10 ) Steve Taylor & The Perfect Foil - Goliath

Was never a huge ST fan, but this album is great and is simply a lot of fun.

Almost making the list:
Messiah Prophet's "Master Of The Metal"
Darrell Mansfield "Revelation"
Petra "More Power To Ya"
Michael Sweet "I'm Not Your Suicide"

Top 10 Christian albums of all time Empty Re: Top 10 Christian albums of all time

Post by Deepfriar Fri Sep 18, 2015 7:55 pm

1: Stryper - To Hell With The Devil--listened to this album a lot when I was a kid... a young kid... have a cheesy home video of me and my sisters "performing" the title track... probably single-handedly the reason I am a metalhead today

2: Bride - Snakes In The Playground--this album is pretty much flawless and it is arguably the best Christian hard rock release period... reminds me why I love heavy metal

3: Crimson Moonlight - Veil Of Remembrance--after having listened to secular black metal for some time, I decided (in extreme metal) it is better for me personally to listen to Christian-only black metal I ordered an overpriced copy of CM - Veil (from a private seller on Amazon) without hearing any samples and before I even knew what Christian Metal Realm was... I played it once and knew instantly that bands who were openly Christians had it in them to make crazy good high production black metal... it is still one of my favorites

4: Poor Old Lu - Sin--one of the few Christian grunge albums to, I believe, hold a candle and even surpass the secular scene... this album is also flawless, in its genre... I think I had every single lyric memorized at one time (from all their albums, not just this one... very underrated band)

5: The Prayer Chain - Mercury--I read a review or something somewhere that said you could "hear the band break up" on this album... I can't confirm or deny that, but this album was ahead of its time... spacey, alternative rock that may still be ahead of its time even in the present

6: Horde - Hellig Usvart--here we are again at black metal... I got this album around the same time I got the Crimson Moonlight CD... a classic that is truly timeless because you can't outclass low production black metal (it's literally impossible)... breath-taking and ground-breaking

7: Circle Of Dust - Disengage--I had to debate which Celldweller/Klaton (or Klay Scott for purists) album was the most influential for me... this one, or CoD '95, or even Argyle Park... but this album came out when I was coming of age and it was frankly the 'coolest' music I had ever heard... dude is a genius in electronic/industrial/dance music, no doubt about it

8: Mortal - Wake--there were actually a year or two in my high school days that I called Mortal my favorite Christian band... this was such a cool, emotional grunge album and a surprise follow-up to the industrial masterpiece Fathom... I still love to listen to this regularly, it is some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard when it isn't aggressive

9: Mortification - Mortifiaction--there is no question which thrash/death metal album goes here, simply because it's impossible to pick which Tourniquet album is the best and I still need to get more into Deliverance... this was the most brutal thing I had ever heard at the time... the (original) cover was as shockingly in-your-face about the reality of "hell" as it is today... the music matches

10: Six Feet Deep - Struggle--once again I debated about which 'core album I considered the most important, yes I do love me some 'core though I am a bit picky with it just shhh don't tell anyone... As I Lay Dying - An Ocean Between Us or For Today - Immortal could easily hold this last spot... but in the end I had to go with the original 'core band I fell in love with... classic Christian hardcore band Six Feet Deep's album, Struggle... what a beast of an album... in-your-face hardcore at its finest

It's so hard to list only ten because other bands had HUGE, MASSIVE impact in my life. Bands like Petra, Third Day, Antestor, Grave Declaration, even Christian contemporary artist Phil Wickham. But I just typed what came to mind and I think it gives you an idea of the broad types of rock and metal that I listen to. I hate that I didn't get to list Golden Resurrection - Glory To My King for example. My favorite power metal album, a genre that I am VERY picky with.

Yeah mine does as well. I guess what I am more getting at is the Albums that really meant something to you through your life and that you always hold dear to you for whatever reason sort of a deeper level than say just enjoying the music if you know what I mean. Anyway I get what ya mean.

Top 10 Christian albums of all time Empty Re: Top 10 Christian albums of all time

Post by Grindboy Sat Sep 19, 2015 9:30 am

"Deeper level than say just enjoying the music" is hard for me honestly, I mostly listen to music for the music.  But here will be my attempt:

1.  The Crucified -- s/t
First "extreme" (at the time anyway) album that I fell in love with and made me put away my Bride and Stryper forever (sorry Gipperman, I thought you post was hilarious though).

2.  Mortification -- Scrolls
Post is my favorite, but like for probably many of us this was my baptism into "real" death metal.

3.  Paramaecium -- Within the Ancient Forest
This was my favorite album for years!

4.  Kekal -- Beyond the Glimpse of Dreams
The first black metal album that I really loved (Horde was awesome, but not like this!)

5.  Crimson Moonlight -- Veil of Remembrance
They were already my favorite band with Covenant Progress, but from the day I heard it up until at least today, this is the gold standard for me.

6.  Argyle Park -- Misguided
The craziest, most tripped out thing I'd ever heard, but boy did it scratch the itch at the right time and place.  ("Christian-ness" debated, I know, whatever, it's my list)

7.  Overcome -- When Beauty Dies
We all loved Zao Blood and Fire, and this obviously wasn't exactly the same but was first and IMO always better.

8.  Underoath -- Cries of the Past.
This era was short lived, but positively glorious.

9.  Vengeance Rising -- Human Sacrifice/Once Dead
I know this is two, but they basically did the same thing at the same time for me.  I hated the vocals at first, but once I got used to them, there was no going back and the music obviously RAGED!

10.  Six Feet Deep -- Struggle
Surprising but awesome to see this show up already.  Once in college my friend came into my dorm room and told me that all my music sounded alike.  Nope, that's not true.  I was just playing one album over and over and over and over.  To me, this is the greatest example I've heard of the end result being so much greater than the sum of it's parts.
