Nice dude!  I'm not familiar with those but I just did a quick internet search and folks are singing lots of praises for them.  Sounds like a great gun.  Here is what I've got for a 1911.  I've been extremely happy with it.  I had a Springfield A1 Loaded which was an absolute lemon.  I sent it back three times for them to fix stuff and it was never fully remedied.  I got rid of it, spent the extra $$$, and got myself a Les Baer.  I haven't regretted that for a minute.

And I just got word that my Ruger Mini 14 arrived to the shop!  After work I'll cruise down there to get my paperwork started on it.  Score!  Very Happy

Kimbers are nice, but my budget just won't allow me to have one.  I'll stick with Rugers as they are much less damaging to the ol' wallet.

I have to throw out there that my lcp ii is finicky.  Very picky with ammo.  The only defense round that has consistently cycled through without a problem has been the sig Sauer v crown.  Most of the time Winchester white box will cycle with no problem but today I had two hang ups.  Most of the time I can't get through a shooting session without a jam in that gun.

For target/fun guns, reliability is really nice but not a "must have."  For defensive weapons, it's an absolute must.  For a long time I had my 1911 as my home defense gun and I keep my Kahr PM9 handy for outings.  Both are exceedingly reliable and I'd trust my life on 'em.

But speaking of Rugers, I got my Mini 14!  It's so pretty.  Very Happy  I can't wait to shoot it but haven't had a chance yet.  I ordered a red-dot sight for it too.  Unfortunately, the 10-round magazines I bought don't fit...  Apparently, Ruger changed their Mini 14's quite a bit in recent years and so some of the older parts don't fit with the newer rifles.  So now I gotta figure out how to handle that.  Sigh...  But the 5-rounders it came with fit fine so it's not too big of an issue, just a hassle.

^A friend of mine has a LC9 and I think he likes it but doesn't love it.  Hard to go wrong with a Glock, from what I hear.  Though for that type of gun, the Smith And Wesson M&P series handguns are a great way to go as well.  I've shot a few of them and like their feel over that of a Glock.  I think they have slightly more vertical grips too, which I like.

I had to send my Mini 14 in to Ruger to get it fixed and received it back last week.  I'm not sure what they did, but the magazines fit just fine in it now.  They replaced my trigger which is a LOT smoother than it was prior as well.  I'm not sure if that was just because they were being nice or if it was related to the magazine issue any.  But either way, the trigger feels great now.  Additionally, they even gave me a free 10-round magazine and a Ruger logo'd microfiber cloth!  I took it out to the range yesterday and it shot fine, though didn't seem as accurate as my AR-15 (which is hard to compare because I got a scope on my AR and a red-dot on the Mini, so much of the inaccuracy could be me).  I was still able to hit an 8.5x11" paper at 100 yards with it no problem.  I look forward to breaking that gun in a little more and also honing my skills.

I'd probably be into shooting if I'd had the chance to develop an interest. I've only ever toyed around with BB and pellet guns a few times when I was younger. Gun culture is much different in Canada, relatively few people have any.

They're not completely outlawed, by any means. I'm not familiar with the law, but I have several friends who have guns, usually longer guns. (And then there was the time I had to help move a gun safe for one of these friends…) They also have crossbows. Hunting is fairly popular here, shooting for the sake of shooting less so.

I guess for me it's like fishing. I've only ever gone fishing once or twice, mostly because my parents never got me into it. They aren't dead set against it, but they don't want to encourage it either.

No, sort of, no and no.

Even though its been 12 years since I was convicted of a felony, I am still (by law) prohibited from using, owning or firing a gun.  Excluding my criminal record, I still have no interest in firearms.

I think its common sense that if you like talking, shooting, owning guns and you can, then...   you should.

My opinion of having these for home/self defense, is excessive, bordering on pointless.  ...but absolutely not "wrong".

I just did some more research. Looks like being "felony free" for 10 years, someone can have their gun rights reinstated. ...so, I could own a gun.

That's something I'll keep in mind, but I'm not interested enough in firearms to go run out and buy one.

^Being the fan of the 2nd Amendment as I am (and a Christian, therefore redemption playing a big role in my worldview)... I don't like the idea of citizens' right to bear arms being taken away permanently like that.  I realize that there are certain people who shouldn't have legal access to firearms - and having felonies is an easy spot to draw the line - but I'm glad to hear that there appears to be some discretion with that.

I also researched regarding voting. Looks like I could vote again as well. Like the gun thing, "last I knew" I was permanently barred from voting or owning/using a gun. I'm not sure if laws have changed since my conviction, or I just always assumed I couldn't anymore because of what someone said one time in one conversation, but either way... it sounds like there is at least SOME common sense in those laws.

I've never owned a handgun until recently, but have always had a couple of rifles and /or shotguns around for hunting.
Bought a Rock Island Armory 1911 a few months ago and love it. Plus Missouri became an open carry state so no permit required as long as it's not concealed.

Very cool!  I've been hearing great things about those RI 1911s.  The 1911 is such a wonderful platform.  I used one for that 4-day defensive handgun course I took in Nevada and did just fine with it.   flower

I'm looking forward to some day living in a free state where I can carry legally (concealed preferably, though open isn't a terrible way either).  Bassdude, do you think you'll get your concealed carry permit?  A full size 1911 may not be so easy to conceal... but a Kahr like mine or Stringfellow's would be perfect.

I probably will get a concealed carry permit at some point, maybe later this summer, but I doubt I'll try to carry the 1911. It's just too big unless you have a shoulder holster and a jacket, but I may get a smaller .45, like a Springfield XDS or something similar, for carry purposes.

I'm more of a casual shooter. I used to be more enthusiastic, when it was a new thing for me, but I have mellowed out since then. Now I only make it to the range once in a while.

I have a Kimber CDP in .45ACP and a Bersa Thunder .380ACP.

My state is now a constitutional carry state since the last election. I can carry without a permit.

Now that I'm no longer in California... there are sooooo many cool guns available for me to buy that I never could have before!  I hear kids are quite expensive though so this will be a great growing opportunity for me and being financially responsible hahaha...  I would like to get a full-size 9mm handgun though.  I like the looks of the CZ P10's...

Well, while a 9mm would be nice for target shooting and whatnot, it won't quite cut it were I to come across any angry bears, moose, or other large animals.  (We also have mountain lions and wolves here.)  So the 10mm it is!  I checked out the Glock 20 and think I will purchase one soon.  Very Happy  I'll feel a lot better on hikes having something that'll adequately protect from big critters.

If you were to need a pistol against a bear or other large critter, it would be close up.  A well aimed 9 MM with a hollow point would do the trick.  You might have to shoot twice, but the hollow point at close range would bring down a lot of things.  I wouldn't want to have to shoot a tiger or elephant with it, but it would stop (or at least scare off) many large animals that became aggressive to a hiker.

What does everyone think of the new 9th Circuit Court's ruling that basically makes open-carry legal in all 50 states?  I believe this will be challenged by the SCOTUS.  I don't know how I feel about open-carry as everyone can see you are packing.  I have grown comfortable having my pistol concealed where folks don't know I have it.

I have my subcompact 9mm with pretty spicy hollowpoints for my daily conceal carry which I think is totally adequate for the typical threats.  Though experienced folks around here unanimously agree that the 10mm is the way to go for larger predators/critters like bear or moose.  When your life is on the line, the old adage "overkill is underrated" seems quite appropriate haha.  Hollowpoints or not, I sure wouldn't want to go up against a charging bear with a 9mm.

I have mixed feelings about open carry...  It's very practical when hiking or fishing or whatever in the wilderness.  Open carrying in the city seems quite silly and unnecessary.  In addition to everyone knowing you have a gun, you have to be a master of retention: if you're not paying attention, someone could just grab it out of your holster and shoot you with your own gun.  I can't think of many/any good reasons to open carry in populated areas.  That being said, I am a firm believer in the 2nd Amendment and "shall not be infringed" means what it says.  So I think people should be allowed to open carry.  Also, in states like California where in many counties conceal carry permits are made unavailable, open carry is the only option (which is lame...).

I got my Glock 10mm and just sent in the slide to the factory to get night-sights put on it.  For $67 + tax, Glock will install tritium night-sights on your slide and mail it back to you.  That's a pretty dang incredible deal; I can't imagine they're making any money from that service.

We started off with skeet shooiting.  Ya'll don't have to worry about alldat with a shotgun.  I can't hit the broad side of a barn with a bass fiddle when it comes to skeet shooting.

Now, with a handgun, you'd better run.  While he was speed shooting, I was as accurate as the guy who was there from the local sheriff's department!

Very cool!  Skeet shooting is a lot of fun, though I'm not too great at it either.  Near where I used to live was a place that was basically miniature golf with shotguns.  It goes without saying, it was awesome.  They had different stages where the clays would launch from diffrent angles, directions, and whatnot.  At one stage they even rolled on the ground.

A guy at our church hosts a monthly shooting contest which is a lot of fun.  It's timed and scored, but you're really just competing against yourself.  We practice engaging multiple targets, shooting while moving, drawing from a holster, etc.  We just make up fun drills too, like having to reassemble your gun first, running to another spot, and shooting multiple targets - all under time.  It's really good to practice under a little bit of stress.
