Which one?
Re: St. Anger: Garbage or underrated?
I disagree. If someone is popular it's because they are good at what music they are playing. This is going to very between people because some people(like myself) hate all modern pop but these pop artists aren't bad or just okay musicians, they are good at what they are doing so they're going to be popular. Same with Metallica.seth wrote:Any time a band is a pioneer of a genre which later comes to be widely loved, that band will get way more attention than they would had they come along later playing the exact same style. That’s why Stryper is so well known among Christian metalheads (maybe a hot take in and of itself?) and why Metallica gets so much attention in general, positive and negative. Not necessarily because they’re actually special above other bands, but because they were the main pioneer of thrash.

If it was Megadeth, you wouldn't care, would you?

People are always like "You're listening to the same stuff over and over again", usually when it's something they don't like or care for, when they are most likely doing the exact same thing with a different band.MagnusPrime wrote:Black Rider wrote:You're obsessed dude, try branching out and listen to other bands.

The current auto-tuned hellscape that is "pop" music is simply a tool for woke claptrap propaganda.
Just ask the dancing "nurses".

That's true. But most pop fans think that death metal is just wordless growling over double kicks and guitars playing the same note over and over.MagnusPrime wrote:Christian Thrash Rules wrote:

I'm not huge into death metal anymore myself, but I think I speak for most metalheads when I say:
I don't care what modern pop fans "think".
Pop isn't about thinking.
Nothing really good or distinguishable in at least a quarter of a century.
Modern pop/country/hip-hop are all the same ball of crap now.

Re: St. Anger: Garbage or underrated?
Maybe we should combine all these Metallica threads into one Metallica super thread. A forum I used to be on did that and it generated a lot of discussion without clogging the board.
Re: St. Anger: Garbage or underrated?
I do... I just thought of this and posted it. Metallica isn't even my favorite band (though they do have my two favorite albums). Deliverance is. I've just heard every D song 1,000,000 times. I have done a full listen through on 14 other bands and soon I'm going to do Vengeance Rising, Believer, and Seventh AngelBlack Rider wrote:You're obsessed dude, try branching out and listen to other bands.
Re: St. Anger: Garbage or underrated?
If you're genuinely concerned I can appreciate that... But just know that I was his obsessed with Deliverance for a while, then Tourniquet. Soon enough I'll grow tired of Metallica and just put them back on a "I'll listen when it's on my list" Like D and TQT currently are. I also find them more interesting to talk about, while I haven't been listening to as much as it seems due to how much I talk about them.Black Rider wrote:I like Metallica but this has become an obsession here.Christian Thrash Rules wrote:People are always like "You're listening to the same stuff over and over again", usually when it's something they don't like or care for, when they are most likely doing the exact same thing with a different band.MagnusPrime wrote:Black Rider wrote:You're obsessed dude, try branching out and listen to other bands.

A lot of us have probably been like that at various times with various artists.

I love Metallica. AJFA is my favorite album of all time. But I haven't been listening to them very much recently. I used to only listen to them pretty much. I've been listening to a lot of Theocracy and Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!

Re: St. Anger: Garbage or underrated?
Lars was already infamous for his skills not being up there with the rest of the band, but then St. Anger... and his reputation as a drummer was not helped at allTZ75 wrote:

Re: St. Anger: Garbage or underrated?
Have you actually listened to it? St. Anger I understand and some of Death Magnetic(TDTNC is one of their best songs though) but Hardwired is great and 72 Seasons is INCREDIBLE. Their best album since '91.Pro-Zak wrote:Everything after Reload is forgettable.

Have you actually listened to it? You're talking to guys about twice your age, we kinda know what's good. If those albums weren't Metallica they would hardly be noticed

Re: St. Anger: Garbage or underrated?
Ok? Deliverance is a great album that 90% when asked if they know what it is they'll say no. That doesn't mean it isn't amazing. Same with Theocracy, Saving Jackie, Vengeance Rising etc.Black Rider wrote:Have you actually listened to it? You're talking to guys about twice your age, we kinda know what's good.
