Christian Folk Music
Any fans of acoustic folk? I've found myself really gravitating towards it when I'm in the mood for something more mellow.
My favorite is Amnis (from the folks behind Czech epic doom band Trinity). They're darker and more melancholic than more typical folk, and therefore right up my alley haha. I'd love to find more Christian music like them.
Jusma turned me onto Mustarastas from Finland. Like Amnis, Mustarastas uses both male and female vocals, but they're generally more upbeat. They're really enjoyable and do this style of music very well IMO.
(This is also easily the most "unlike any other album cover" in my collection hahahaha.)

I'll check out your first pick, and if I have time will check out #2 and #3. Where do you suggest starting?

Chase the Buffalo is his best, but it’s hard to find. Give Everything Matters a go if you can’t find CtB.

Folk isn't a genre I know a lot about. When I want something mellow, I usually gravitate toward certain classical music and Gregorian chant.
But I have enjoyed songs by Carolyn Arends, Mark Heard, Sara Groves, and Don Francisco. There's also Rivers & Robots and their various solo releases. And John Michael Talbot, although his material is generally more orchestrated.

I sampled some on youtube and it's not quite my thing; he sounded more singer-songwriter (would that be American folk?) to my ears. I admittedly have no idea of what the various sub-genres of folk are or what differentiates them.

Yeah, it'll be tough finding that specific sub-genre you're looking for. My recommendations would have been along the lines of Petis as well.

Eh I'm not necessarily looking for recommendations, though I'm definitely open to them! I just thought I'd share a couple ones I liked and was curious to hear what else is out there.
I never could get into folk metal. But I do really like stuff that incorporates the darker elements of folk in their music like Vials Of Wrath.
