Favorite song on Ride the Lightning

Let’s see how this thread digresses.

Anyway, this album is a masterpiece with no weak songs. (Escape is super underrated).

I’m going Creeping Death.

Tough one, voted For Whom the Bell Tolls but depends on the day.

Escape.

Those lyrics were a narration on my youth. 

In fact the lyrics are still relevant to a lot of aspects my life today.

Creeping Death all the way! So good.

^Same here.  While I always considered AJFA to be their "best" album, RTL was probably my favorite.

For Whom The Bell Tolls!

I really love the title track. The lead break has some of the same awesome melodic writing that they continued on MoP (Cliff’s influence). 

Fight Fire, Bell Tolls and Creeping Death are other favorites.

Creeping Death is the greatest biblical based song written by a non-Christian band.

Personally, I love songs about depression, though it's one of those things that will hit differently depending on life experiences.

Title track

Gotta go with Creeping Death. The riff is great. I feel like there could be bias due to the lyrics, but it is IMO the musically best on the album. I'm glad the musical best happens to be the one with biblical lyrics though.

Ride the Lightning (the song) or Creeping Death.  I used to like Trapped Under Ice the most, but it has worn out a bit.

Call of Kulu (Cthulhu)

Massive Hp Lovecraft fan! This instrumental really captures The dread and menace of the story and the eldritch demon older than time itself, the one called Cthulhu!

Ktulu and Thing that not should be for me are part one and two of the same song. The lyrics  ti the Thing that should not be are awesome and the music right on point.

Recently watched a video of Metallica playing this as an intro to their one of their latest shows, the sky was all twilight through grey clouds and James just relaxed soaking it in while playing Ktulu. It was just awesome.

Also escape is awesome too even if James hates it.

Escape was my ringtone when I was 17/18. That one and For Whom the Bell Tolls were always my favorites.

I'm a huge HPL fan! He might be my favorite author, warts and all.

It's hard to overstate how creative this album was.

Moreso than KEA, it set the template for Metallica's "classic years" and countless bands.

I’ve been reading Lovecraft recently myself, he really was a great writer

It's awesome it captures the madness and insanity and impending doom of HPL. Guess everyone knows my favorite from puppets now.

I’ve been reading Lovecraft recently myself, he really was a great writer

Funny thing with HPL is every story is basically the same story and all ends the same—AGGHHH I'VE GONE INSANE— this obsessive repetitive style and nature HPL wrote in adds to the insanity and possession of mind these worlds and cosmic horrors had on him, as if he really believed they were real. The more you read from him the more you start believing they are real yourself.

One of mine too. Tragic figure with a tragic past and life. Also wish he knew how much of an influence he is and far his tentacles stretched and reach through time in the form of movies, writers, video games, music, memes and and just sitting in that mid ground of underground and mainstream pop culture...he's everywhere even if people don't realize it. Lovecraft died pretty much an unknown and was unearthed years later. truly sad.

I don’t disagree, but I think the classic years only lasted three albums… RtL, MoP and AJFA. 

KEA was an incredible springboard, while TBA was the landing strip into their modern era. 

The “sweet spot” was 1984 to 1988 (the classic era)
