Tourniquet - Broken Cromosomes
There aren't many songs that I think need an entire thread devoted to them, but this is one of them.
The thing with this song is that, musically, it's good. About average for Tourniquet. But the lyrics, and the way the song is structured, tells a story so well, with so much emotion, that it's one of the best songs I've ever heard.

Imo the music is just as good as the lyrics. Especially the ending part. Best TQT song, hands down

If you like songs with incredibly powerful lyrics that tell a story, I also recommend Theocracy’s Mirror of Souls if you haven’t heard it yet. I consider a prime candidate for the greatest metal song ever written. I know this thread is about Broken Chromosomes, but I can never pass up an opportunity to recommend Mirror of Souls

Great song. Not their best, but absolutely fantastic. The “men fail me, but the Son of God saves!!!!” part gives me chills.

I agree, that is a contender for my favorite moment in any song.Pethead wrote:Great song. Not their best, but absolutely fantastic. The “men fail me, but the Son of God saves!!!!” part gives me chills.

Yeah, the ending part is great musically. I just mean overall, the lyrics are what make it my #1 Tourniquet song. But yeah, the weird "ah" sounds add a lot to the emotion of that part. Amazing song all around.seth wrote:Imo the music is just as good as the lyrics. Especially the ending part. Best TQT song, hands down

Thankfully I don't have broken chromosomes (or an abusive father), but the emotions of this song are an anthem for anyone who was a social outcast in school. It's one of my favorite Tourniquet songs too.

Re: Tourniquet - Broken Cromosomes
Broken Chromosomes is one of my all time favourite Tourniquet songs. Incredibly well written with lots of passion and a really important subject. They completely nailed it, and Guys vocals were perfect for the song. I loved it so much that I wrote some lyrics about a person who was picked upon for their physical deformity (inspired by that song).
I've always wondered what Guy sings at the end, and he's never actually said (although there was a competition where we could all guess and he'd let us know, but that never happened)

Yeah, especially when he says "the son of God saves" the way he says it really sells itFundy wrote:Broken Chromosomes is one of my all time favourite Tourniquet songs. You have the extended quiet part, then one of the best line deliveries in the history of music, and that kicks in a riff with "ah" noises that might sound a little weird but add so much more emotion... that's one of those moments where I stopped the momentum of the song last time I heard it to replay itFundy wrote:Yes, definitely. This song growed on me so much... when I first heard it I thought it was decent, but pretty weird, and definitely overrated... a couple more listens have showed me how much depth is in this song

Fantastic song!
If they ever had a “hit”, this would be it. At the very least, it’s a major fan favorite. The music is catchy and the lyrics intriguing. Not to mention the emotion Guy injects into it. The ending with the unique vocal effect is a standout highlight. If you are familiar with the band Savatage, the singer Jon Oliva would do a similar effect with his voice. If Guy wasn’t influenced be him, it’s a big coincidence.
This is arguably Guy Ritter’s best song ever. It’s epic!
