I'm rediscovering this gem after about 20 years. From what I've learned here in the last 1.5 years. And please give reasons so I learn more about the differences between thrash, death and black. Thx!

But what makes it death metal, Temple, and not Thrash?

I think for some of us we associate Death Metal with ultra alternate picking riffs and blast beats, but for basic requirements of "death metal," thrash on the more extreme side and with "death" growl vocals is sufficient to make the jump. That's basically what early Possessed, Death, etc. sounds like. Maybe we could differentiate that sound from the later, more "pure deat metal" sound like Morbid Angel and, for Christian bands, Mortification.

Death Metal has more D beats and palm mutes but there's definitely crossover, especially earlier stuff like Devastation or even some Sepultura.
