Petra vs White Heart

2 of the softer Christian rock acts, but which one do you like better? I'd say Petra, their albums are more consistent IMO.

Petra, but both are GOATs. I will say that Freedom, Powerhouse, and Tales of Wonder can give any Petra album a run for its money.

Freedom alone takes this.

That is thee Christian rock album of my lifetime. Perfect.

Freedom and Powerhouse are better than the best Petra album by a hair imo.

I’m going with Petra for consistency throughout their catalogue. But those later Whiteheart albums starting with Freedom give Petra a run for their money.

I don't really enjoy the early Petra albums either but they were around much longer.

The first two Petra are good Jesus music albums, but I don’t spin them much. WWT has a couple good tunes but is their weakest album of originals. But from NSD until the mid-90s they were killer.

Beyond Belief is one of my top 3 albums.

Whiteheart easily. I love both bands but I always thought WH was miles ahead in songwriting and instrumentation. Bob Hartman wasn’t anywhere nearly as gifted in lyric writing as the WH guys. That said, I still really love Petra too. They were my first rock concert.

I prefer Petra’s lyrics. Straightforward Scripture but written in a way that flows.

WH’s lyrics are often evocative, though.

Petra' s lyrics could often be youth groupish but they were solid.

If by “youth groupish” you mean “lifted straight from Scripture” then, yes. 

A lot were but they were pretty basic overall. I'm not dogging them, it has a place.

I suppose I should feel different about this poll. I've heard a number of Whiteheart songs, almost bought a used copy of Freedom a few times. I really haven't loved anything I've heard. On the other hand, I love Petra from Never Say Die through Beyond Belief. I actually love their lyrics more than most bands. They cover a ton of topics, some quite challenging and convicting, in really memorable ways. The lyrics and melodies stick in my head in the best of ways and are always thoughtful enough that my kids ask questions about their meanings.

I went for Whiteheart but both bands are great lyrically.

Musically, both have some stellar material and then a lot of material I don't care for.

Next match-up should be Idle Cure VS. DeGarmo & Key

Me too.

I never got into White Heart, although my best friend did.  But Petra--that's another story.  Petra is very likely one of my desert island bands.  I just love 'em.

Petra is my top 5 favorite bsnds of all time. Whiteheart is no where near that but they have alot of good material.
