Debut or Killers?
Re: Iron Maiden: Debut or Killers?
^Pethead knows what's up. The '90s albums each have some good material but also Maiden's worst songs IMO. For the most part the reunion albums (Brave New World through Senjutsu) are pretty strong but do have some filler.

Yes, IM is a big influence on euro power... in part because of the vocal style of Bruce Dickinson. I love albums like The Number of the Beast and Powerslave.Constantine wrote:What's odd is that you like Euro power metal...which is all based on Iron Maiden! Without iron Maiden there would be no Euro power metal.Andreas89 wrote:Dunno, never heard them. But I thought I'd butt into the thread anyway to see where to start.

Again, I don't need a metal card to listen to power metal, didn't you know?Kerrick wrote:Andreas89 wrote:Dunno, never heard them. But I thought I'd butt into the thread anyway to see where to start.
First: shame shame! I'm putting you on a two-week ban so you can reprioritize your life and focus on getting your metal card back.
But now that we got that out of the way... how much of Maiden have you heard? IMO the Di'Anno albums aren't very representative of the band's overall sound and wouldn't be a good place to start if you're fairly new to the band. In that case I'd recommend starting with any of the '80s Bruce albums, namely Powerslave and Somewhere In Time. But if you're already somewhat familiar with those and are just looking to get acquainted to the Di'Anno albums... why not both? It's only two and neither is particularly long.
Anyway, I do admit not heaving heard too much Iron Maiden, because my love for 80s metal is more limited compared with the stuff that came after. I do like to dive back into those times but there are so many bands to listen to, and when I listen to that kind of music I want to hear the entire thing and pay good attention. And to be honest, I can't listen to Bruce Dickinson for too long, I have limited tolerance for his vibrato. Aside from TNotB and Powerslave my experience with 80s Maiden limits itself to a few songs and the first half of SSoaSS. That one is on my wishlist and there have been several times I almost bought it, but it hasn't survived my in store selection process yet. As I said, there's lots of stuff to scratch that 80s itch.
I also own Dance of Death by the way, but IMO those newer albums are too long, some good songs notwithstanding.
