There can be only one!
Favorite Saint album?
I love just about everything they’ve done. I always look forward to a new Saint album! But my favorite is Time’s End. I think it’s a perfect album.
(I’m leaving out The Perfect Life, but feel free to comment that it’s your favorite).

If you can believe it, I just started checking them out recently.
So far, “Too Late for Living” sounds pretty good to me.

lol, they look like cute angry bichon frise spawned from hell (no offense to the artist- it's a classic album cover). one of the few albums I owned on vinyl. Also had Petra never say die and some Beatles. Metal and rock album covers are always better of course. Yeah those bands are kind of generic, I know what you mean by that.Raegoul wrote:One of the bands I have a hard time getting into, because I don‘t really like the vocals. Same with Barren Cross and, to a lesser degree, Bloodgood. I find them a bit generic/bland. That being said Time‘s End is a classic and the cover art is hilarious, those furry monsters almost look cute.
Saint have more albums than I Realized. Once owned Warriors of the son, Times end and too late for living. Been a long time between drinks but from memory It;s Gotta be Times end probably, but remember too late for living being a good release too. Heck, Wots was good as well. All on tape and then cd as well.

Have you listened to Broad is the Gate or The Calf? There are different vocalists on those.

Having said that, I'm going to give them another listen, especially the albums that come out ahead in the poll. I know I've enjoyed--at least--a few of their songs; perhaps there's more out there I'll love!

While I would never say they’re a better band, I’d rather listen to Saint than Priest (other than Painkiller).

I’m not sure why you’d think they were subpar musicians. They’re not Rush, but the drum and guitar work on TLfL is on par with secular metal in general.

I think it's another case of the bias when I was in high school: 1) young & judgmental, and 2) focused on fast song tempos.

I understand. In high school, I was a Van Halen fanatic and compared all other guitarists to Eddie.
If it helps, compare Saint’s drumming to Dave Holland’s!

Im not sure about sub-par but I feel like they are a samey Priest inspired band and I just never enjoyed either of those bands. I feel like with the new singer The Calf and the new album they finally have their own sound. Thats just my 2 cents.Sevenoneself wrote:I've only ever heard Too Late for Living. edit: I just tried Too Late for Living and only made it through 3 songs before I just couldnt listen anymore. I really wanted to like Saint more and the first time I went through their catalog I "liked" but didnt really have anything that jumped out at me and have never really gone back with an intrest to try again. The Calf on the other hand I listen aatleast monthly.

Have you tried Broad is the Gate? It’s a different singer than The Calf or their old stuff.

That is why I love this forum, people can disagree and still get along.

Re: Favorite Saint album?
When I started picking up the newer albums the first few were already out but since Hell Blade (my first Saint bought as a new release) each album has spent months if not over a year getting regular plays for me. They've been fantastically consistent. They haven't skipped a beat with the new singers either. I actually really love Brian's work on Broad is the Gate.
