Schlitt. No question. I prefer the hard rock to the lighter rock (although I like it all).

Bonus points to Soldier777 for knowing The Great I Am from Captured in Time and Space since it isn't on all versions of that recording.

Thanks eatbugs! I have the vinyl, cassette, CD and DVD of Captured. All formats has slight differences.

I have the cassette and CD. My parents have the vinyl which was my first introduction to Petra.

Prefer the Greg X Volz years but of the Schlitt years This Means War is probably my favorite. Greg has an incredible voice.

I'm going to rank the early years separately first where there is a different vibe with John Schlitt:

1-6 are real close abd great albums. The debut is a decent debut and they were finding their sound. Washes is a moderate to light rock album but well done. CAJU and NSD set a template for future releases. The later years coming soon......

1. Beyond Belief
This is a flawless album. Underground is my fav for sure. Prayer is good but doesn't work as a great closing track.

2. Jekyll & Hyde
Nearly flawless, just lacking in Bob's amazing solos like anything off Beyond Belief or On Fire! and Run For The Prize.

3. On Fire!
After Defector the album starts to slow down quite a bit. Ballads aren't bad, I love them, but the album feels inconsistent and I wish there were more songs like Hit You Where You Live and Defector.

4. Wake Up Call
Midnight Oil is an amazing song, the rest of the album is great too.

5. Unseen Power
Has a few weaker tracks but has a great sound overall.

The rest I haven't really listened to. Right Place from No Doubt is an amazing song though.
