Re: Sacrament News + a new band arise...
I got the album today. Overall I like it!
My only criticism is the production. The vocals sound like they were recorded in a tunnel. Too much reverb… the guitar sounds good but it could be a bit more in the forefront with more crunch like Haunts of Violence. The only thing that is loud and clear to me is the drums. It cuts through nicely in the mix.
I know they were probably on a shoestring budget… so I can’t fault them.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that about the production, I like it but I wish it was better produced.

Agreed!
Haunts of Violence had good production quality (aside from the slightly low volume level). Even Sacrament’s ToA album had clear vocals. I guess it’s all about the mixing/mastering.
Don’t misunderstand me… I like and appreciate this new album! I suggest that maybe they try a kickstarter or GoFundMe campaign next time to get top notch production like Tourniquet always did. I will definitely donate!

Some of this stuff (e.g. Unleashed and Redemption) can stand toe to toe with classic Sacrament IMHBAO.

I dont know I love the fact that with all the fancy digital compression and tools etc they didnt over produce and it adds that slight rawness that thrash now a days especially is missing. Honestly feels perfect to me.

I fall more into this camp. Thrash loses something if it’s too clean and sterile.mothy wrote:I dont know I love the fact that with all the fancy digital compression and tools etc they didnt over produce and it adds that slight rawness that thrash now a days especially is missing. What are everyone’s favorite songs on this thing? I really like Unleashed, Redemption, A Day of Wrath, and Blessed Are the Dead. Majestad is a cool instrumental. I think my favorite tune overall is Lamb of God, though.

So far my favorites are…
Lamb of God
A Day of Wrath
Walls
We All Shall Rise
*Take My Spirit
(I like the clean singing. I hope they do more of this!)

Yes. I received the physical disc yesterday. I’ve been listening to it in my car.

“A Day of Wrath” is the closest to the old Sacrament style. I like the breakdown part and rapid vocal cadence.
Please do more songs like that!

Agreed! Could that song not have fit right in on ToA?

Re: Sacrament News + a new band arise...
This album is growing on me. I kinda over psyched myself before the release. There are some things I’m not crazy about… but it does have some good moments. Hopefully they keep gelling and get tighter (if they do another album). My main gripes are that the vocals have too much reverb effect (it sounds like unfinished pre-production demos. Also more guitar solos would be a plus. The original Sacrament albums are full of them. What can I say… I love guitar!
I recommend Bill Metoyer to produce and engineer the next one. He did some great things with Tourniquet. A crowdfunding would pay for it. I’m willing to chip in!

Just gave it a quick listen. My favorite songs are:
- Day Of Wrath
- Majestad
- We Shall All Rise
- Blessed Are The Dead
I like the t-shirt design (the one on Bandcamp) but wish it were a long sleeve because it's getting cold out there....
