I'm done discussing the theology stuff for now.

I find that lately I've been resorting to music from my teenage years. Old classics like Tourniquet, Deliverance, some alt-rock. Basically, tried and true music that has stood the test of time. Often, I get overwhelmed with how much new stuff there is. Just when you conquer one genre, another one creeps around the corner that simply must be explored. Then, once you've conquered that, you learn that there is the whole European continent putting music out and then you start all over!

So, what's been rocking your socks off lately?

Calm discussion about heady theology. Don't quit. I haven't said much because I don't' have time to write out my thoughts well and I don't want to shoot from the hip on such an important matter. Don't be emotional. One little issue is nothing. Pa'lante!

About music, I'm still rocking Wytch Hazel.

Just listened to that whole song. Definitely an early hard rock sound. Very nice. Something I could grab onto once in awhile.

^I was just listening to their album this morning!  It's fantastic.  Every time anyone says "oh no" Veronika and I get the last song totally stuck in our heads hahaha.

Some of the newer(ish) bands/albums I've been enjoying are:

Vardoger - Ghost Notes - this album is just so fantastic and refuses to get old or tiresome
The Autumn League - Concept Of Irony - same as above
Death Therapy - The Storm Before The Calm - Jason Wisdom's new stuff is fantastic and quite different than anything else I have
Hesychast - Ageless - after being in the works for YEARS, it's finally released and worth the wait
Leonov - s/t - great album
Melech - a couple of guys from Pantokrator making really solid melodic death metal
Ohen - Mortal Man - this one's a bit more underground but very good and I look forward to hearing more!
Renascent - been around for a little while but I just got into them and wow, great stuff
Signum Regis - these guys have been around for a while too but I find myself listening to them a ton
The Slave Eye - awesome melodic black metal
Throne Of Awful Splendor - supposedly they've got new stuff in the works...

Almost everything I've listened to in the last several days has been secular stuff.  That and my own track on The Blackest Light Vol. 1 comp, trying to figure out how well I hold up to other stuff that's out there quality wise, and where/how I can improve......

The thrash classics from the late 80ies and early 90ies stand the test of time for me and the more often I spin them the better they get. I don´t get tired of: Deliverance, Vengeance Rising, Martyr/ Betrayal, The Crucified, Believer, early Mortification, early Tourniquet!

Although I listen to a lot of stuff many newer releases dont´t stand the test of time and I get tired of them.

Exept the following bands / releases  that I discovered lately (the last 10 years Laughing ) that still rock my socks of after many spinnings:

Extol: Extol
Megadeth: recent stuff
Northern Flame: Debut
Seventh Angel: The dust of years
Stryper: No more hell to pay + God and Blackened
Warlord: The holy empire
Wytch Hasel (Thank you Kerrick !!!)

(secular: Amorphis, Orphaned Land ...)

Looking forward to fleshkiller (release of Ole Borud), a bit Believer, maybe Tourniquet, Deliverance definitely, Galactic Cowboys...

I never once listened to the Galactic Cowboys! I always saw their stuff on the shelf and never tried them out. I think my teenage mind thought they were some kind of weird country act.

I ignored them back in the day. I picked up on them a few years ago, now they're one of my favorite bands. Definitely worth checking into.

I have been in the mood for:

mychildren mybride - Unbreakable, Lost Boy, Self Titled
been listening to all 3 of their albums, getting stoked for their new album which will be out in the next few months

Seventh Avenue - Terium, Southgate, Tales Of Tales
been jamming a lot of power metal, went back and recently bought Tales of Tales and just picked up Eternals

Convictions - I Will Become
Kinda wrote these guys off as a generic secular band

Recently checked out their lyrics and was blown away! They are easily one of the most Christ centered metalcore bands out there today
They call themselves Aggressive Worship

Lyrics: Have I lost myself? Have I forgotten who I am? Four years later, I’m still a broken man. Part the sea that separates you from me. Limb by limb, rip me apart. Open up my chest. Give me a change of heart. God, I’ve forgotten how to feel. God, change my life with passion. I’ve built a kingdom of none with sand and stone. The hands work and wither. I pray; let your will be done. I will rise above the ashes just let Your will be done within me. Breathe in me. Lord shape me and mold me with passion.

Lyrics: How can I become a man of God when in my mind I’m a man of a million lovers? All my secrets kept deep beneath the covers. My eyes twitch and twist. Oh what a mess my portrait has become. What will I become? My desire for love is tainted. How am I the picture you painted? My canvas is nothing. My colors are disgusting. It's haunting me. I'm so terrified that I won't break free. It follows me. These earthly addictions are consuming me. Corruption corrodes my true reflections. What kind of gentleman possesses these intentions to hide these filthy afflictions? Will I ever look at a woman in pure thought again, or will I fulfill these slutty fantasies in my head? Am I imprisoned in this never ending sin? Free me from lust. Restore my innocence. Sex sells! I was born into a world of sin; predestined to let these voices in. It's following me to the point of breaking. My rotting soul is Your’s for the taking. She was my home. The house of lust kept me warm at night but You pry open my eyes. The house of lust was a house of lies. I lost myself walking to a home that was burnt down years ago. Don't let me wither away. What will I become?

Ugh. I am so back and forth with hardcore and metalcore. I love it, then I don't love it. I listen to it because it energizes men, and then I stop listening to it because it brings up anger. I flip flop on it so much I might as well be a politician!

Been heavily into many Christian bands after years upon years of mainly secular stuff (that I still listen to). Top choices of late include Demon Hunter, Norma Jean, Saving Grace, A Hill to Die Upon, Sleeping Giant, Bloodgood, Living Sacrifice and The Devil Wears Prada.

I know what you mean about the seemingly unending subgenres, I try to keep up but it ain't easy (or cheap if your like me and buy what you really like).

Its tough man! Especially when theres so many great bands out there! Ya gotta pick and choose what you buy! Especially if you span so many decades of metal

The younger fans only buy new stuff, and then the guys only into classic stuff only buy the comeback albums and collect the older material

Then there's people like me and you we buy everything in between! Not enough money to go around alien

I've been playing the new Demon Hunter almost non-stop.

I also picked up cheap at Family Christian Stores going out of business sale:
Project 86 - Knives to the Future (playing now)
ULF - Entertainers and Soldiers
August Burns Red - Found In Far Away Places

Yes, check out Galactic Cowboys.  They are a classic from my teenage years.

I've been working on a new song that I want to release soon, so I've been listening to that to the point that I almost hate it. Razz

Besides that, Rose's "Songs for the Ritually Abused" has been playing non-stop.

I"ve been listening to Neal Morse a ton ... ever since I picked up Similitude of a Dream last NOV or DEC. Before that I hadn't heard one note of Neal Morse.

I just got the recently released Bluray of Morsefest 2015. It is FANTASTIC. Two discs. Disc one is the complete ? album plus some other stuff. Disc two is the complete Sola Scriptura album plus some other stuff.

I highly recommend it. The second disc also has a behind the scenes documentary which is really good. It was cool seeing Mike Portnoy and Phil Keaggy riff on a bunch of Beatles tunes.

Been listening to the new Flatfoot 56 several times a day every day. Honestly I believe it is their best album yet. Amazing!

I've also been trying to listen to and fully get into the new Demon Hunter, which is pretty different. Some great tracks but the flow is off. Too many soft songs in the middle, at least right now.

I'm also still going back to Rose "Songs For The Ritually Abused," Signum Regis "Decinnium Primum," and Exhortation "Ashland Messiah." It's good to finally have the later two as physical cd's to read the lyrics.

My teenage years were the 80's so I was really into Stryper, Whitecross, Bloodgood, Barren Cross and those kind of bands. But I also enjoyed D&K. First Christian band I saw live with Mike Warnke as the opener. Always loved this song

I've been on an epic power metal binge lately. I think it was sparked by the album of Northern Flame, I've been ordering way more CDs in 2017 already than I would have thought in January.

One of the specific niches of power metal I like (speedy, riffy, symphonic, epic, male singer mostly, if possible a concept album) just has not been discovered by christian artists I think. Northern Flame and maybe Theocracy are the closest but I've already kind of given up on searching.
So that's why I'm more listening to secular music lately. Yesterday I listened to the latest Fairyland album, and even my wife liked it. I'm a lucky power metal fan Wink

Here's the album.
