Northern Flame

Great news. Very curious

Exciting day tomorrow! Not just job interview, but Northern Flame will release the first single for the new album. The song is called Sanctification of the World, and I think I heard a live version on youtube once. Sounded good then, so I'm eager to hear the studio version.

They did update the logo a bit though, but it still looks nice.

I'm disappointed, the drummer has a couple spots not tattoo ed. 
The vocalist is great, really reminds me of Falconer with that resonate voice. So many euro metal singers sound alike it's good to have some variety.

Great song! One of their best. The recording quality is excellent too, a step up. I'm even more excited now!

The first listen gave me a negative impression, I thought it sounded very thin.

My second listen reveals the problem. It's a great song actually, great instruments and vocals lines. But the singer is forced to sing higher than he's comfortable with, which leads to a strained voice and thus to the impression that it sounded thin. We already know that he's a good singer, he actually sounded fantastic in the somewhat lower register where he sang most of the first album, it really added to the atmosphere. Now he's forced into a more standard power metal register and it does not really help.

I'll listen to it some more and I'm sure I will get used to it and still love the album, but I was hoping for something less substantial for me to enjoy it less than the first album's material.

Checking out some older stuff I get what you mean but i still think he sounds unique compared to much of the euro power metal out there. Hopefully other songs he sings lower.

Thanks for all your comments Did anyone of you listen to the second song, Broken Soul? If you didn't do that yet, you can find it on Spotify, or you can request it on Dead to Self Radio. Andreas, I can see where you're coming from, but I don't necessarily agree. That's the beauty of music, isn't it?

I'm not trying to be mean or stir things up here, but I don't buy into the almost absolute subjectivity of music. Some people love to hear clumsy guitar playing, but that doesn't make the guitar playing any less clumsy and therefore less good than good guitar playing (provided it is done with a certain passion). Also when a good singer sings in a way where his strengths are limited, it's not as good as another singer who can sing the same parts with more confidence.

That being said, the song is growing on me and the more I listen the more I can hear an acceptable amount of control over his voice. I love the song enough to say that it would indicate a serious top 10 candidate for this year, and I am always including secular music there so you'd have an idea how seriously I take this. And I did hear a live version of Broken Soul on youtube by the way, sounded great.

Broken Soul extended version was great man.

For all intents and purposes this will be a 2021 release. That digital release next week is too close to the finish line of 2020 to have any significant bearing on the top lists. So I'll use the CD release as a yardstick for that.

How does this relate to Parakletos?  Avantasia and Parakletos don't have much in common?  I am very excited that Parakletos is back though!  Their one album is great and I look forward to hearing more from them.

I want to clarify here.. The reference to Avantasia, is the concept of how it realized. A concept story and different characters - different vocalists. This is what I am going for with the 2nd album (or 4 EPs, how you want to look at it). So a "symphonic (un)black metal opera" in this sense... I participated in the norwegian band Jernlov and their first album this year .. kind of similar idea, but not as technical music if I may say so..

I am studying for a masters degree in music education at the same time as working right now, so there won't be happening anything too soon with Parakletos . Really happy Northern Flame stuff has progressed as it has right now though

Second, thanks for the info!  That all sounds mighty cool; I'm eagerly awaiting that new Parakletos album.  (Don't get too distracted with that degree!   )  And yes, I've been really enjoying that Jernlov album too.  Quality stuff.

As for Northern Flame, will the CD be getting US distribution?  I'm holding out for the CD.    Thanks!

It sure will. Roxx Records / Christian Metal Distro at least are interested. Eddie DeWitte from Colorado will also have CDs to sell directly within your area. He will have some in stock, because he helped us greatly in writing lyrics to a few songs and has supported us financially for the production. The physical version is limited to 500x so lets see how much can be sold these days
