Want movie suggestions
OK guys, I have 6 available credits at http://www.swapadvd.com and I want some suggestions in the sci-fi, fantasy, action, western and martial arts categories.
It would take me too long to tell you what I've seen and liked, so if you can just start throwing titles out there and I'll see what catches my interest.

^The Devil's Backbone has been on my watch-list for years now haha. One of these days I'll watch it!
Here are some of my favorites:
The Fisher King (comedy/drama/fantasy)
The Proposition ("western" except in Australia; don't watch with the kids)
The Adventures Of Brisco County Junior (western tv show; a favorite of mine as a kid)
Calvary (drama/suspense)
Videodrome (sci-fi/horror, don't watch with the kids)
Southland Tales (sci-fi, acid-trip interpretation of the book of Revelation)
The Seventh Seal (drama/fantasy)

My wife has watched The Fisher King, I have not. She remembers liking it.
I've never seen or heard of the others, except Videodrome which you recommended once.

No, I've never done well with horror. I never found the supernatural to be something to be entertained by. I do just fine with sci-fi terror like Alien, and I do OK with scary fantasy stuff like Pan's Labyrinth, but with demons and stuff, I can't handle it even in the slightest. I've never even seen Ghostbusters or Gremlins! I remember a friend taking me to The Ring years ago and I kept my head down for the final 10 minutes of the movie and slept with my boots on that night.

Well, if you like sci-fi horror then Predator is a classic (never saw any of the sequels or the alien vs predator films, so i dont know how good those are). Speaking of sci-fi action, Demolition Man is a great film also, with lots of good satire.

I own all Alien and Predator movies, so I'm covered there. However, I had forgotten about Demolition Man! I might have to put that on a possible list.

It's so good! I actually own two copies, The Director's Cut and The Final Cut. I haven't compared them though to see what differences there are.
Side note! Many of the sound effects and used by the Christian industrial band "Under Midnight" came from that movie.

Now this is interesting. My boss gave me all his old DVDs the other day and Serenity was in the batch. I know nothing of it but now I'll have to give it a viewing!
Never heard of the other two, I'll watch the trailers.

I think Serenity is the movie sequel to the tv show Firefly. (I've never seen either but hear they're fantastic!) You might want to start with the show first.

Have you seen Moon? I highly recommend it. 12 Monkeys is good too. I just watched a trailer for Grabbers that looks fun! Ooh Phantoms is a pretty campy sci-fi horror flick that's a lot of fun.

Yeah, if you have the opportunity, watch the show firefly first. It's really good and only 1 season.Kerrick wrote:I think Serenity is the movie sequel to the tv show Firefly. (I've never seen either but hear they're fantastic!) You might want to start with the show first.
Oh, Karam's suggestion of edge of tomorrow is great too. That was so good.

Seen them both. Surprisingly to me, I didn't enjoy either a whole lot. They were good, but not great for me. It's odd because I am a Tom Cruise fan.

Never heard of Moon, Grabbers or Phantoms. 12 Monkeys is good from what I remember, but I haven't seen it since it was in the theaters.

Fermat's Room
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1016301/
A group of people get an invitation to a house where they have to solve puzzles while the keeps getting smaller and smaller. They have to solve the puzzles to avoid getting crushed.
Repeaters
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1580426/
A "Groundhog Day" action thriller. A group of people find out they are living the same day over and over again. Things get tense when they start disagreeing what they should do with the situation.
Exam
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1258197/
A group of people looking for a job, are locked in a room and given one question which they need to understand and give an answer to.
Circle
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3118452/
(this doesn't seem to be available on that website)
A group of people wake up in a room where they soon realize they can't leave and they have to vote who will be killed next.
I love these types of "high concept" films

Again, thank you all for the suggestions. I've put some of these on my wish list and when they become available, I'll let you know.
In the meantime, I've picked up The Proposition (Australian western), All the President's Men, and Reign of Fire. I've seen the latter two but have not watched The Proposition yet.

Right on; I'm curious what you'll think of The Proposition. It's got some pretty violent/brutal scenes but wow is it an amazingly done film IMO.

Re: Want movie suggestions
Moon and Firefly (the complete series) arrived today, so I will report back on those. Time to get watching!
Although, my watch queue has grown so much!
Tonight we will watch the last episode of Daredevil Season 2. (much enjoyed)
Continuing watching Hell on Wheels, Longmire, and Sherlock series (all on Netflix)
Plus, Gotham and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. series start up soon so there's that to keep up with as well.
