Re: Currently reading?
I've noticed, and I've looked up a lot of these connections online before deciding which books to read next I own a copy of Dark House, but I haven't actually read it yet. But each and every comment I've heard about it has said that it's better than The Talisman, so i really need to read it soon...and a third book, that sounds excitingStaybrite wrote:HenrikB wrote:Yeah, they're both fantastic. But the first time I tried reading The Gunslinger, I wasn't impressed, so I didn't read any more of the books in the series until I read The Talisman by King and Straub. I liked it, read up on it on the internet, and realised that it had a lot in common with the Dark Tower series. At this point, all the books besides The Wind Through the Keyhole had been released, so I went to the library, borrowed The Gunslinger, liked it and borrowed them all one by one and read them until I was done with the series Then I had to wait a little longer until TWTtK was released.Staybrite wrote:HenrikB wrote:I'm reading Lightning by Dean Koontz
Every now and then I get stuck in Stephen King and Dean Koontz and that's all I read for a period of time...this time it started when I read the latest book in the Dark Tower series (which I totally love, by the way).
Both fantastic writers. I remember stumbling onto the Dark Tower series back in 1989. Someone gave me a copy of the first book and I was hooked. I ran out a few days later and got the second book. Then I had to wait two years until the next one. I'm a huge fan of the series.
You might have already noticed this but the more King novels and short stories you read you will discover a lot of "cross-over" stuff from The Dark Tower in those other stories (not all of them mind you, but more than just a couple).
I also really liked The Talisman, have you read the sequel they wrote together "Dark House"? It's been years since I read it, but I remember it being a bit darker than The Talisman. Rumor has it they are supposed to be working on a third book together.

Love the Dark Tower. Glad I read Salem's Lot before Wolves of the Calla as well as it made Callahan's redemption even more meaningful IMO.

Re: Currently reading?
That's why I like to check for connections first. It's been a few years since I read Wolves of the Calla, but I didn't read Salem's Lot until last summer, and when I did - well, like you, I thought Callahan's redemption in WotC made more sense. Reading them the other way would probably have been a better experience. Not that this was a bad one, but I think you get the pointWildWorld wrote:Love the Dark Tower. 12 rules for life by Jordan Peterson. Pretty helpful so far.
You guys make me rethink my decision of throwing away my Dark tower books.

Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan.
Read it several times before, difference is that this time, I understand it way better.

I suspect this is one you need the right translation to understand well. I read it once and I spent so much time just trying to understand the words that the story and the point got left behind.

Re: Currently reading?
Heh, I read an old Dutch translation, which is quite normal for more traditional christians in the Netherlands. I prefer my translations a bit more modern, but language is one of my stronger points, so it's not that much of a problem. I do want a newer translation for my wife though.
The reason I never understood it that well before, is quite simple (and stupid). For most of my life I had problems looking at life itself as a way, I used to be among those who experience conversion at some point and more or less depend on that. Apparently the dead giveaways for life being a way all over the Bible didn't catch my attention

Stranger Things - Erin Healy
Although it shares a name, this has nothing to do with the popular Netflix show.

Re: Currently reading?
I read a book recently. With TV and my laptop and my iPhone, I don't read for recreation much anymore. Ironically the book I read was partly about becoming a better person via reading.
