Murdock LOVES Beyond Belief, but he's going to have to go with Petra Praise - The Rock Cries Out

Re: Best Petra (Studio) Album Part 2
This is the weaker list of the two minus the classics Beyond Belief and Jekyll & Hyde. Im also a fan of Unseen Power
But Beyond Belief is their strongest so had to vote it

Beyond Belief, pure and simple. None of the rest of those even come remotely close. After that album, it all started going downhill IMO. I have strange nostalgia for God Fixation and Wake Up Call (sometimes) but that's it.
Re: Best Petra (Studio) Album Part 2
From this list, it's Wake Up Call. Really like Beyond Belief, Praise, and Unseen Power, but Wake Up Call is a terrific rock record, and sorely underrated in my opinion.

I almost went Beyond Belief but Unseen Power was just so memorable for me for some reason.

Saw Petra twice in this era, during the On Fire! tour and during the Unseen Power tour.
EDIT: Solo, I saw Greg X. Volz and John Schlitt in concert individually.

"Beyond Belief" was and is such a stellar album! When I first heard it I remember thinking WOW! Petra is starting to sound like Def Leppard! I've been a fan of this album since I first heard it years ago. The follow up album, "Unseen Power" was good too, but nothing as good as "Beyond Belief". I think that is simply Petra's masterpiece.
Too bad they went downhill so badly in the late 90s. They should have shut down shop after Bob Harman left. After all, he was the only remaining original member. "No Doubt" was a stinker of an album.
But Petra's golden years will always be from 1986 to 1994 for me!

Same here on all counts! LOL! I saw each solo artist once! John was by far better than Greg live though.
I also saw Petra twice, but it was the "Back to the Street" and "This Means War" tours.
Those were my first two live shows actually. I was just a kid at the time.

Beyond Belief was the best Petra album of their career. After that they slowly began to decline in my opinion

I went with "Beyond Belief" but could have as easily voted for "Unseen Power". Those two albums are absolutely perfect!
Re: Best Petra (Studio) Album Part 2
Beyond belief for me. Just seeing the album title caused The Creed to start playing in my head. The only thing that gave me pause was the inclusion of the praise albums. They are my favorite praise albums ever.

Yeah, they tried with Jeckyl and Hyde. Didn't do much for me either.

Re: Best Petra (Studio) Album Part 2
Jekyll & Hyde was the hardest one since Wake Up Call or before. It was missing guitar solos though so the songs felt rushed. I've always said including a solo in each song takes it from a good 30 minute album to a great 40 minute album.
I love how the poll results are going for this one!

"Jeckyl & Hyde" would have been perfect with guitar solos. It was great guitar rock still with pop sensibilities written in to make a big hook. If there were lead breaks, these songs would be a million times better. This is, to me, the equivalent of Stryper's "Reborn".

I agree. "Reborn" and "Jeckyl & Hyde" were both kinda bummers. Good albums still, but compared to what both bands proved that they COULD do! ... well ...

Re: Best Petra (Studio) Album Part 2
The songs were great, but would have been the perfect album with guitar solos instead of quick breakdowns.
Re: Best Petra (Studio) Album Part 2
Voted Beyond Belief, second best album they've done.
Jekyll and Hyde was an attempt to update their sound breakdowns were cool in the modern sound so that's what they did.

Re: Best Petra (Studio) Album Part 2
I think the results are fairly clear here I also could've sprung for Unseen Power, wasn't that bad of an album, but just the title track from Beyond Belief blows everything out of the water.
