Black Metal
I've been a fan of Black Metal for many years. Though it's not a top favorite genre, I still really like it and get in the mood for it often. Today I was cranking Arcturus (before they turned Progressive Metal, they were a good Black Metal act).
I'm not interested in hearing a debate about how satanic this music can be. This thread is all about the STYLE and MUSIC only!!! Which is why I didn't start this thread in the 'Christian' section.
Feel free to list all your favorite Black Metal bands from Christian to secular! Regardless of belief or lyrical content. Some of us listen to music that we don't necessarily agree with the lyrical content, but we're fans anyway, cause the music is what matters most to us! Please no bashing or preaching to anyone. And thank you for not judging.

Re: Black Metal
Even though a don't listen to them anymore because of their lyrical content...these were about my two favorite bands.

Re: Black Metal
...oh....and this one as well.
But once again, I could not recommend these due to the world view they present.
For Christian though, I still really like Crimson Moonlight and Extol if I am in the mood for some BM.

Re: Black Metal
There are some Christian bands that are legitimately as good as the top tier secular bands. I feel Antestor, Slechtvalk, Lengsel, Crimson Moonlight, Drottnar are all right up there. The closed minded secular scene doesnt want to believe it, but it doesn't make it untrue. The musicians could play in any top black metal band if they wanted. And look, Helhammer thought Antestor was good enough to record and album with them. Others I'd love to hear more from are Vaakevandring and Vardoger.Hardcore Christian wrote:I only own a few Black Metal albums but keep track of a few bands

My list is a good place to startRavenWolf wrote:I need to get more "Christian" Black Metal.
Interesting fact: Deborah is a all female Christian Black Metal band from Mexico
Put that on a t-shirt

Re: Black Metal
I'm not much into black metal but there are some songs I really really like.
This one is perhaps my personal favorite:
Gorgoroth - Måneskyggens Slave
Check it out starting from 3:30 onwards. It's fantastic!
I love this type of simple melancholic melodies and harmonies.
And this is probably my favorite Christian black metal song, even though it's perhaps a bit more in the thrash/death side than black metal:
Frost Like Ashes - Shattered Gods

Re: Black Metal
Emperor
Wrath of the tyrant
Night side eclipse
Anthems to the welkin at dusk
Mayhem
Death crush: This album though not strictly black metal is just mad.
De mysteriies dom sathanas: Mostly for the guitar tone and pure cold vibe you get from it. Euronymous took the guitar sound from Bathory under the sign of the black mark and reinvented it. This album is very important to the second wave of black metal it cannot be understated.....though I wish the vocals were different kind of annoys me.
Hell hammer
Bathory
particularly under the sign of the black mark which I think in my opinion is the first album to actually carry the sound of the second wave of black metal also very important album.
I could go on forever with this list but those are the most important ones.
I love cradle of filth's Midian and dusk and her embrace these were my gate way into Black metal.
many more....

Re: Black Metal
I always thought Vesania were like 1349 or Cannibal Corpse. Extremely entertaining to watch, not so much just listening.
I might have to give them another chance after seeing that video...

Re: Black Metal
Yeah Cannibal Corpse was a blast when I saw them live a couple of years ago. Another great band live is Marduk, great show. It impresses me, especially these good black metal bands, how fantastic they sound live. I think thats what I've found fascinating with the genre, the precision and speed that some of these guys can play with. I don't headbang or anything at these shows because I'm far too fascinated watching the musicians play. It almost looks effortless....ThomasEversole wrote:I always thought Vesania were like 1349 or Cannibal Corpse. Extremely entertaining to watch, not so much just listening.

Interesting Dark Funerals drummer plays lefty

Re: Black Metal
Oh yeah, I agree with you. I love Marduk (Mortuus is also in Funeral Mist, that video I posted earlier) and I love Dark Funeral. Constantly wearing their shirts. Constantly jamming their albums.
Regarding the speed and precision, if you do it long enough, it pretty much is effortless. (though they make it look more effortless than I do LOL)
I'm a bit of a blast drummer myself. This is a death metal / grind example, (though most of what I play is black), but I think I'm above average in speed - especially for being a big guy.

Re: Black Metal
I never developed that effortlessness on a drum kit. My arms just got tired lol. Nice video of your drumming, interestingly I bought an Akryal album from blastbeats back in the day. The first Grim album also.

Re: Black Metal
Oh yeah, if I blasted with my arms, I'd be spent in a short amount of time. Its all in the wrists. Seriously!
That's awesome you have my old stuff. I'd like to think I'm leaps and bounds above that with my new stuff.

Re: Black Metal
Listening to some Cradle of Filth today. One of my fave Black Metal bands. I love their signature Symphonic Black Metal sound. They pull it off so elegantly too, with underpinnings of Gothic Metal and Melodic Black Metal! Their new album is pretty great IMO! One of my faves of 2015 so far!
