If you had to pick one Disciple album, which would it be?
If you had to..... Disciple
For those who are fans of Disciple, which album is the one you would pick to keep if you could only have one?
I'm thinking This Might Sting A Little.

And before I get yelled at.. I could only put 10 items in the poll, so I left off Attack. If it's your favorite, just say so in a reply.
I just listened to that album today on the drive home. It might have the lyrical punch, but the music leaves me wanting. I figured it would be a safe choice to leave off the list.

Scars Remain is like the Weapons Of Our Warfare of 06
Awesome album every song is heavy, fast, fist pumping, Southern goodness
Except the two CCM radio hits which I also enjoy
The best songs are: "Game On", "Scars Remain", "My Hell", "Love Hate (On and On)", "Regime Change", "Dive", "After The World", "No End At All"
I constantly go back to this album
This and Temptation Come My Way (The Showdown)
are in my most played CD's and Top 10 of all time list

My second choice would be Back Again

Only like the first 4 albums...the rest should have been under a different band name...

If the band is the same core group of membersPershing1134 wrote:Only like the first 4 albums...the rest should have been under a different band name...
and they progress I think they should keep that name
People called Holy Soldier sell outs with albums like Last Train and Promise Man
To me its just progression
Same with The Showdown or Blessed By A Broken Heart
Their 2nd albums were way different from their debuts people called them sell outs
Its just the band progressing
Last example is Maylene And The Sons Of Disaster
Their 4th album was a total departure
I liked all the progression with Disciple, BBABH, Holy Soldier, The Showdown, etc.
(I did not like the Maylene change)
People always treat it like the band should make a second album that is amazing and sounds the exact same as their best album
Scrolls II, Weapons II, Human Sacrifice II, Pathogenic II
It isnt gonna happen.................the band changes
Sorry to rant on your comment just wanted to put that out there

Almost every band has a progression in their sound over the course of the albums. I don't think it requires a name change.
And, yeah I agree about Scars Remain. It's probably my favorite of the last several albums.

Re: If you had to..... Disciple
i don't think a band should change their name unless they either A) have NO original members left or B) drastically change the style of their music.
As for favorites, I am going with "Back Again". It has some great music and lyrics. Disciple took a step towards more mature lyrics here but kept Jesus clearly in the forefront. All in all, I think it is their best. However, I am a fanboy and like everything they've done thus far. I like some better than others, though.

I went with This Might Sting A Little. I guess it's a sentimental favorite because it was my first Disciple album. By God, Scars Remain, and the s/t are also among my favorites. I never really got into Back Again. For me, there are two different versions of Disciple...with Brad Noah and without. Both are good but there was something special about the albums with Brad.

Re: If you had to..... Disciple
What Was I Thinking had tons of groove and some of that southern metal sound. After that, they moved more and more towards a generic nu-metal band. I've like a few songs here and there like, The Ballad of St. Augustine, but overall, it doesn't hold my attention.

If I had to...Back Again. Scars remain is a close second. This Might Sting A Little might have been my vote if it was about 4 songs shorter. "Eternity" from Horseshoes and Handgrenades is my favorite Disciple song though.

Saw them live in 2002 before they got a bassist. One of the best bands I've ever seen live.
After Kevin stopped playing bass, it was just....Different. Less stage presence, and I kind of miss the in-your-face-Jesus lyrics.
They have a few good ones after '03, but not a whole album of 'em.

I enjoyed all their albums but I really think Attack was a return to form in the vein of Scars and s/t
Their older albums have always been pretty good in my mind but I do not own anything past Back Again

"Attack" has definitely shown a return to form lyrically with the more in your face approach. However, with the lack of guitar solos and less than memorable riffs, the music comes off as pretty generic and that is coming from a fanboy. I would like this album more if it were more aggressive and actually had guitar solos.
Re: If you had to..... Disciple
Tough call for me since I enjoy everything they've ever done to one extent or another. I really love the highlight tracks of By God, but there's also some occasional filler tracks there. I also really love Southern Hospitality which includes my favorite Disciple track (Lay My Burdens) among others.
If I could only have one though, I think I'd pick Scars Remain. That's just such a complete album with its nearly unrelenting heaviness being complimented by two of the best ballads of the band's career. There's not a single track that I'm tempted to skip with that one.

Re: If you had to..... Disciple
Truthfully I think you should have put Attack on here instead of My Daddy Can Whip Your Daddy
Just because its an EP
Also
I orginally thought Horseshoes and Handgrenades was a EP also
I originally bought s/t, Scars, and Southern Hospitality when they first came out.
To me Southern was so much weaker than Scars that I didnt bother to pick up H & H or O God Save Us All
Attack really brought me back into the Disciple mood
I saw them live on Winter Jam and was hooked on them again, IT WAS AWESOME
I feel bad for not picking up the previous 2 but ya
Thats the story of me thinking H & H was a EP

Re: If you had to..... Disciple
I'm a little surprised that there's no love for By God. Sure as Wildcat pointed out there's some filler, but I thought Sting has more filler (the highlight tracks on both are career highlights though).
Yeah, the attempts at being radio-friendly (the "generic" sound we've complained about) have hurt them from at least the self-titled on. H&H only had one guitar solo - guess who the "guest" guitarist on that song was? Each album still has great songs though.

Brad Noah. H&H was their first album after he left the band. He did the guitars on "Watch It Burn."Hardcore Christian wrote:Who?eatbugs wrote: H&H only had one guitar solo - guess who the "guest" guitarist on that song was?
