If you could only keep one Holy Soldier album which would it be?
Favorite Holy Soldier Album
I thought because we have all these topics floating around that I would bring this one back
I just edited it from what it was previously titled
"If You Could Only Keep One Album"
I still stand by my vote for Self Titled

I voted Self Titled, to me every single song on there is a hit
I play each and every song over and over and rarely skip one
Last Train is awesome. I enjoy about 5 of them a lot but the rest are just meh
Promise Man I enjoy 2 or 3 songs the rest meh
I would choose Red Reign over Promise Man any day

The Fantastic 4!!! Love all 4 albums but would probably vote for 'Last Train' for sentimental reasons as it was around the time I got married and so played it a lot for my wife during that time!!!

Loved Promise man...the other two HS albums are good musically but I hate Steven Patrick's voice so that kinda ruined it for me ....

I picked their first one. I think their love one Encore should be there. Even though there were only 2 new songs, the live versions of their songs were really good.

I picked the first one. I enjoy all of them although maybe Red Reign least. I wouldn't have voted for it anyway but Encore deserves to be there too.

I never got past the first cd. I loved every song on it though really good melodic rock music. I saw a video with the new lead singer and just wasn't that crazy about it so forgot the band and stopped buying there product.

No question, the first one....I saw them on a small tour with Hoi Polloi opening for them.....
I will say this....Steven Patrick was the smelliest guy ever after that show, I thought people were going to puke at the meet and greet post-concert.

I voted Last Train today...could just as easily vote for the self-titled tomorrow.

Re: Favorite Holy Soldier Album
Last Train for me. I like the debut, but the follow up was stronger. Also, it was more personal for me. Though it had been out for a while, the song "Tuesday Morning" became my story. My mom died in 1995......on a Tuesday morning. I played that album and song a lot to help deal with the grieving.
Re: Favorite Holy Soldier Album
S/T and Last Train are both so excellent albums, so I cannot vote in this. But if there`s a change to wote the worst album, it would be Promise man, it just sucks. Steven Patrick`s voice is just the thing. His solo Red reign was not too goo album anyway.

Re: Favorite Holy Soldier Album
I went with Last Train, but really you can't go wrong with any of these albums. All four in the poll are terrific, even if Promise Man was way off the trail from the others. For what it is, it's solid and I enjoy it.
Last Train's songwriting sets it apart for me. The title track is brilliant; such a creative lyric that really creates a sense of fear (for the unbeliever) and peace (for the believer). The guitar solo in this song smokes! There are two songs on this album, though, that I don't really care for - Gimme Shelter and Tuesday Mourning. But it speaks to the strength of the rest of the album that I still rate it #1.

Had they used another name and released it, I think most of our opinions of it would have been different. It was grunge influenced hard rock and done very well for the style.
I don't think many metal fans really liked the albums put out by their favorite bands when they tried to go alternative in the 90's to stay relevant. Sadly, some of those were really well done like this one or Whitecross's "Equilibrium". Both of these albums were so well done with the alternative sound that it is really scary how well these metal bands did it. I think it shows the caliber of the songwriting and the flexibility of the bands to do multiple genres of rock so well. Even though most won't agree, I even think Guardian's "Bottle Rocket" and Bride's "Jesus Experience" were great albums--had they been released by another name. The switch to the alternative sound was done TOO well, really. I think that Bride's was the best overall as it still has the band's sound and vibe. It doesn't use any more guitar effects than their "Kinetic Faith" album did.
Wow! I must have felt like journaling this morning! LOL

I think Bride was more respected in their change because of them kinda going with the flow in different genres, love all of their grunge era albumsalldatndensum wrote:All four in the poll are terrific, even if Promise Man was way off the trail from the others. I actually love Equilibrium by Whitecross, Flytrap I never could get into
Guardian: I love Buzz, cant stand Bottle Rocket
With Holy Soldier, I havent really taken a gamble on picking up Promise Man, but the songs on Encore are pretty good!

Re: Favorite Holy Soldier Album
After all these years, I find myself listening to Promise Man more than ever before.
It took me a long time to appreciate it. When it came out I was just expecting something VERY different and was disappointed.
I don't have the CD, so I listen on Spotify. If anyone has the CD they want to sell, let me know. and I might be interested in buying or trading for it.

Re: Favorite Holy Soldier Album
I like the first two albums, although I do think each has a skip button or two.
Although Last Train has two of my favorites (Hallow’s Eve and the title track), I’ve gotta give it to the debut.
