I still go back to them often.
This (and this whole thread, really) points to something.
These are great albums, as noted above Crimson Moonlight takes my choice, no question. But they really ARE "older" now. Why is almost everything mentioned here older? Veil of Remembrance is now 10 years old -- how has nothing surpassed it (I know, they finally have a new one in the works)? Why haven't there been 12 newer bands that took the baton and pushed the bar to new heights, to mix track and field metaphors? There have been some good bands/albums, no doubt -- A Hill to Die Upon, Grave Declaration, more from these same bands Extol and Antestor, Hope for the Dying, Enshrouding, Neizbezhnost, The Burial, Saving Grace, all solid work. But doesn't it seem like somewhere along the line somebody could/should have set a new standard? Or -- serious thought, actually -- are albums like Veil of Remembrance and The Forsaken just about the ceiling on what can be done within their respective sounds/genres? I don't know, just asking questions.
MBR, I wouldn't necessarily mention it for "favorite" extreme metal album ever, but Mirror of Dead Faces put out a strong work, no doubt about it.

Wintersoul is okay, certainly competent, but doesn't grab me personally. For classics I'd say;
Horde - Hellig Usvart (this also doesn't grab me )
Crimson Moonlight - The Covenant Progress
Antestor - The Forsaken
Slechtvalk - A Forlorn Throne (I actually prefer At the Dawn of War)
Extol - Undeceived

I think the "test of time" has something to do with it. Nostalgia too maybe.
For instance, I've really enjoyed Blood Thirsty - Sanguine River Absolution lately but I can't call it "best" and it sure hasn't proved staying power yet. Ditto with the latest Hortor and Antestor. Folk metal as a genre is a relatively recent discovery for me too.
My vote: Mortification - Scrolls of the Megilloth.

Burial by Extol and their self titled album are definitely in the discussion.
Re: Best Christian Extreme Metal Album?
Some people would count thrash as extreme metal. In that case I’d say TQT: POD.
If it needs to be heavier, I’ll go Morty: PMA.
