Re: Art
I get what you are saying, and I agree with you.
One of my unfinished ideas is a retelling of an old sci-fi story.

Drawnsword,
Have you ever heard of a book titled Barlowe's Guide To Extra-Terrestrials?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barlowe%27s_Guide_to_Extraterrestrials
I was thinking that you might find this interesting.
Here are a few samples from the book.

Re: Art
That is exactly the type of sci-fantasy creativity i enjoy. Creating other worlds and creatures etc to inhabit them is most entertaining. This book reminds me a bit of another famous artist who did a book of alien animals in there natural planetary habitats... name escapes me.
Very cool your working on a sci-fi story... public domain?
The thing i like about other world sci-fi is the creative freedom where you can really let your imagination loose and not be bogged down with loads of pacific details like you would if you were drawing a super hero comic set in New York city or something...ha drawing Star Wars too some what.

Yes...it is a public domain story.
I got the idea to retell an old story from Walt Disney. He has taken lots of old stories and made them his own. I like that idea.
I may post some stuff later on.

The Secret City
Here is a classic TV drawing show that used to come on PBS back in the 80's.
Does anyone else remember "Commander" Mark Kistler?
He showed you how to draw in 3D, and taught you the 7 magic words of drawing.
Towards the end of the show, he would work on a huge mural. It was cool to see him add to the mural each day.
Here is an episode of The Secret City. Enjoy!
And here is a look at the completed mural...

Ha! My wife and I would watch Imagination Station when there was nothing else on. We still drop his "imagiFUNation" word every once in a while.
Since we are talking about PBS, I have to post this awesome Bob Ross song clip.

I love Bob Ross
He is so peaceful and calm, and he paints a masterpiece in under 30 minutes.
These PBS remixes are awesome. I wish they would do a Mark Kistler remix song.

Here is a special hour long episode of The Secret City.
In this episode, Commander Mark takes the whole episode to teach you the 7 magic words of drawing.
Remember to "draw, draw draw!" and to "stay in a super positive mood"

Re: Art
I am in awe of the artistic talent on display here. I personally have none in these areas. Zip, zilch, nada. My stick figures look fat, my straight lines look like mountain trails, and don't even get me started on circles. I am starting to get serious about photography, so I guess that's where my visual art focus is right now.

"Commander" Mark Kistler can help you with that. Check out the video I posted where he teaches you the 7 magic words of drawing.
After learning and applying those techniques to your drawing, you'll be amazed at how quickly it starts to improve.

Some good "art news" here.
Mark Kistler plans to make a new Imagination Station series.
This really looks awesome

So...I'm going to be working on some animated films, and I need a good camera.
Anyone here know anything about video cameras/camcorders?

Re: Art
I'm looking for a good video camera/camcorder that records video....and takes good still shots.
I have been into art/drawing pretty much all my life, yet I have never tried to animate any of my cartoons.
I have a light table...and the proper programs I need to put the animation together.
All I need now is a good camera.

Have you ever looked into animation software? Like ToonBoom or Anime Studio?
Re: Art
No...I haven't. I'll look into them, though. Thanks!
I have a pretty good audio/video editing program that I think will do well for my projects.

Re: Art
I've messed with them both. Toonboom was a little quirky to me, and I like Anime Studio better. It's all time line based stuff.
I just came across this open source one called Pencil2D: http://www.pencil2d.org/

Re: Art
I found a good article that explains things a bit better. It seems to make sense to me.
http://www.steves-digicams.com/knowledge-center/how-tos/digital-camera-operation/camcorders-vs-cameras-for-video-and-stills.html#b
Looks like what I need for now is just a good digital camera. I can get a video camera later.
So now the hunt is on for a good digital camera.
