This is a band that was popular in my hometown back in the day.

They are called Permanence.

I'm friends with a couple of the guys in a Santa Cruz melodic death metal band called Above The Storm.  They're a very good band and put on a great live show!  Check 'em out.

What style is that? Screamo?

Melodic death metal.  Their earlier stuff (also available on there) is a bit more metalcore influenced IMO, though their newer stuff (Slow Temple and other unrecorded songs) is Gothenburg style melodic death metal.  Most if not all the members are Christian and the primary song/lyric-writer definitely is.
