Re: Best 2014 release!
Maybe it can be best of 13 and 14?
Although I didn't really care for it so much.
Strange that different labels would have different copyrights, but it's worth noting that I don't know what I'm talking about.

Hmm, the Metal Archives say 2014 for Incarnate - that's what I was going off of. But my CD does say 2013 too. Shoot, now I'm curious!

Re: Best 2014 release!
Maybe it was originally scheduled for 2013, but then a las minute delay might have happened, and it ended up being release in 2014.Grindboy wrote:My copy of Pantokrator says C2013 Rottweiler Records. That's what I've been going off of (and what got put into my nerd spreadsheet!).
If people want to say it's among the best of 2014 that's fine and I won't argue with it, but was just trying to provide some info.
Some like Mythos get mentioned here -- I know! #1, I don't get most things brand new anymore, so I'm sure I got this in '14; and #2, years go by in a couple weeks anymore, so it seems like not very long ago. That was a great album, fully agree.
I can't really recall the time it was released, however I remember the best 2013 release thread opened here and no one mentioned Pantokrator...
People here might say that the Guardian new album was actually released in 2013 what is right, though it was released only for kickstarter supporters. The general public only had access to it sooner this year.

I'm fairly certain my #1 pick of the year is going to be the new Letter 7 album.

No Pantokrator was in January of 2014Grindboy wrote:I only picked up 4 2014 releases so far, I guess.
FWIW, Pantokrator was 2013, and LemonMouse mentioned Antestor, which was 2012.
My 2 favorites would be A Hill to Die Upon and Saving Grace. Also, while not "Christian" and I don't think I've seen it mentioned really anywhere, I happened to think that Austrian Death Machine "Triple Brutal" was really pretty solid! For Today's effort, to me, was a bit lackluster.
That's all of the 2014 for me.

Stryper - No More Hell to Pay
It's so good and fresh, still counts as a new release!

Not a Christian band, but Vanishing Point's "Distant Is The Sun" is definitely album of the year for me.

Re: Best 2014 release!
I'm gonna go ahead and list a few underground releases that will almost certainly be on my year-end list:
Dodsmarsch - Skandinavian Black Metal Alliance
Katumus - At the Ruins of this World
Megiddon - self-titled EP

It seemed a rather glaring omission.

Have you listened to either of the others?

I have not! I heard a song or two from Katumus and it didn't grab me, but perhaps I should give them another listen. Any song(s) in particular you'd recommend?

Re: Best 2014 release!
Oh, I'd say "As the Doom Comes" or "At the Ruins of this World." For Megiddon, I'd say "Demon." Definitely "Demon."
Btw, Fire sent me a copy of a song from Katumus' upcoming album, and it's even better than anything on their debut. I just wanted to brag about that for a minute.
Edit: Misspelled the Megiddon song title. I was thinking of another band.

Re: Best 2014 release!
I was thinking of doing an actual survey listing all albums of the year in a formal vote. Would this interest anyone?
Otherwise:
Saint - Broad Is The Gate
Letter 7 - Trust
Teramaze - Esoteric Symbolism
Were my top 3.

Cool I'll have to check those songs out! Thanks. Aww dang, look at this guy: getting the sneak preview! That's rad. Well I'll definitely have to give those gents another listen then.

Yes, but someone tried something similar last year and I don't think they ever did tally the votes for us.

I see. I will get something put together... Google Forms allows you to share the results instantly with voters, so there's no need to come back and update it if I forgot (which I wouldn't - I've been thinking about this for months!)
Also, does anyone have a comprehensive list of releases in 2014? I was trying to think if such a list should be a simple "Best album of 2014" thing, or break it down in to subgroups as well (e.g. best metalcore, metal, melodic/ect album of the year so there isn't just one list with 1000 items).

Re: Best 2014 release!
2014 turned out to be a pretty good year for me. New albums from Saving Grace, For Today, Pantokrator, Hating Evil, War Of Ages, Demon Hunter, Teramaze, Pylon, Saint and Tourniquet. Today, I picked up the new Harmony album. All good albums. That said, two albums come to mind immediately when I think of this year... Northern Flame - Glimpse of Hope and Hilastherion - Signs Of The End.
I would also like to mention an album that was left almost in between years, being released at Christmas 2013, it didn't get much love on the lists. That album is Solamors - Depravity's Demise. Excellent album.
