Savatage - Edge of Thorns
I forget how great this album truly is. This is a masterpiece! I really wish that Criss Oliva and Zak Stevens had been able to work together on more records after this one. Their combination is just gold. I enjoy every single song on this album.

Far and away the best Savatage work, at least that I've heard (but I'll admit I haven't heard every album).

Better than HOTMK? Hardly! It's not even better than Sirens. But it's enjoyable. Certianly more than any albums after that.
Re: Savatage - Edge of Thorns
Prior to Edge of Thorns, I thought the band might be finished. I was pleasantly surprised with it. I tend to find myself in the minority on these things, but my favorite Savatage album was Gutter Ballet.

Good album. Wasnt the biggest fan of Zaks vocal work at first. Jon Oliva has such a distinct voice it was a bit of a shock but EOT was a grower for me and I learned to like the album. A few songs anyway. In my opinion though Gutter and HOTMK are my favs by them. Savatage was underrated as far as I am concerned

Great album, one of their best. I was listening to Criss Oliva's guitar playing just the other day and I'm still just now getting what the guy was accomplishing as a musician. There was nobody like this guy.

My favorites are the more symphonic/theatrical Streets and Gutter.

Re: Savatage - Edge of Thorns
There was a time Edge of Throns was my favorite Savatage album. I went through a period when I was really into the more ballady, melodic, and keyboard based songs of theirs. I still consider this is a strong album just not my favorite anymore.
Gotta love the title track, Damian, and All That I Bleed!

Re: Savatage - Edge of Thorns
Bro Gutter Ballet was so underrated it was a bit on the poppy side with some ballads but as far as emotion and melody they nailed it for me on this one. As far as Edge Of Thorns goes I hated it when it first came out and couldn't conceive the idea of Savatage without Jon Oliva but it started growing on me after I let go of my prejudices their are some really good songs on itmetaldude wrote:Prior to Edge of Thorns, I thought the band might be finished. ....Dungeons, Sirens, Power of the Night, and HOTMK are the only ones for me.

Its a good album and maybe the best from the zak era, but yeah like some others said, early sava pretty much rips better.
