Epica - Kamelot review
Kamelot is one of the bands that defined the genre of power metal, and made it what it is today. And Epica, is no exception. Epica is Kamelot's first concept album and is one of the best Power metal albums ever written. It tells the story of Ariel, a young alchemist who leaves his home, in search of truth. It is based on Goethe's Faust. I am not going to write specifics on each song, as it tells a story and spoiling it is not ideal. Each song is a wonderful work of art by itself, but as a whole it is amazing. Musically it's very melodic and fast paced, using power chords and fast single notes to create a driving and emotionally charged tale. On top of the instruments is Roy Khan's ever powerful and amazing voice, making every emotion expressed feel real. It never feels cheesy or forced, but every bit is sincere. All in all this is a power metal essential, and the 2nd part of the story, the album The Black Halo is just as good. Both are 5/5
The album is very well written, though some of the lyrics are a bit obscure. If you have a hard time following the story here is a reference to help http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epica_%28album%29#Plot
