Vengeance Rising - Human Sacrifice (although OD may be my personal fav)
Detritus - Perpetual Defiance
Living Sacrifice - Living Sacrifice

Those are three that immediately come to my mind.

It shouldn't be.  The debut is much better.

A lot of metal albums/bands are "legendary" but overrated.  And a lot are ignored and better than the big names.

Whitecross - s/t rules!

The Brave - they’ve never sounded as good as they did on Battle Cries. James Salters was irreplaceable.

I definitely agree with some listed. I would add:
Saviour Machine (1993)
Veni Domine (though their 2nd and 3rd are comparably good)
Saint
Paramaecium

Haven
King's X (not sure if it's allowed on this list...)

It's personal opinion, but I don't agree with those who've mentioned Morty, Tourniquet, LS.

I love the first King's X but Gretchen easily topped it for me.

I do. I like the straightforward, British Steel era Priest (the greatest metal band imo) sound, but with thicker guitar tone and production. It also ends with their two best songs. I never get tired of “Steee KILLAAAAA!” I do like their new stuff, though.

I think the next two were better, largely because of better production.

Definitely the s/t by Living Sacrifice!

I used to also say the s/t by The Crucified, but I like Pillars slightly more nowadays.

I like the straightforward thrashy style on the s/t Mortification… but the drums, unique guitar sound and heavy guttural vocals are much better on Scrolls!

I don't understand why people say the first morty album is just really heavy thrash. It's death imo.

It’s considered death/thrash. Kinda like Beneath the Remains by Sepultura. Steve also was influenced by the German thrash bands with the harsh vocals (Destruction, Sodom etc…)

I also don’t think the s/t Mortification’s guitar style was death metal. To me it sounds like stripped down and crusty thrash with a person trying to develop a guttural voice (but not quite there yet).

Scrolls had a guitar sound that was deliberately crafted with a death metal style. Mick Carlisle started to use those trademark picking patterns.
